CHESS CLUBThe Chess Club is open to all <strong>Fenwick</strong> <strong>student</strong>s, whether they want to learn how to play or tobetter their game. There is club competition for those desiring it. The top players form theChess Team and will represent <strong>Fenwick</strong> in interscholastic competions. Mr. John Paulett isthe moderator.FILM CLUBThe Film Club meets weekly to view a variety of modern, classic and foreign films. The maingoal of the Film Club is to help <strong>student</strong>s have a greater appreciation for films other than themainstream Hollywood fare.FRIAR MENTORSStudent tutors provide academic support for their peers in this very helpful organization. Ms.Mary Barr is the moderator.GUITAR CLUBThe Guitar Club meets informally throughout the school year to discuss, play and appreciateguitar music. Mr. Michael Slajchert is the moderator.HISTORY CLUBThe History Club sponsors <strong>Fenwick</strong>=s Model U.N. Mock Trial and Gospel Choir. In addition,it conducts trips, debates, discussions and speaker presentations. Mr. John Quinn is themoderator.H.O.L.A.Hispanic Outreach, Latino Awareness is dedicated to the ideals of service, study and communityas it relates to the Hispanic community. It is an all-inclusive organization. Mr. Jeff Verver is themoderator.INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS CLUBThe International Relations Club provides for open discussions on persons' homelands andhuman relations. Ms. Irene Drago is the moderator.INTERNET RADIOStudents broadcast athletic games live and bring you radio shows of differing topics andpersonalities. Fr. Michael Winkels is the moderator.JETSThe Junior Engineering Technical Society sponsors competitive examinations in biology,chemistry, computers, English, graphics, mathematics and physics. In 1989 they were nationalchampions. In 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009,they were state champions. Mr. Ramzi Farran is the moderator.LITERARY MAGAZINE (TOUCHSTONE@)The Literary Magazine features <strong>student</strong>s' writings and art work. Mr. Jeff Verver is themoderator.MATH COMPETITION CLUBThis club is for the <strong>student</strong> who wishes to try more challenging math problems, to haveextra preparation for college entrance tests and to compete with other <strong>student</strong>s at local andnational levels. Competition is held between club members evert two weeks and membersalso compete in the Illinois and National Mathematics Leagues. In 2002, we were statechampions. Mr Roger Finnell is the moderator.MARTIAL ARTS CLUBMembers of this club are instructed in the Korean martial art of Hapkido (the art ofcoordinated power). Mr. John Polka is the moderator.PHOTOGRAPHY CLUBThe Photography Club focuses on providing knowledgeable insight into photography. Italso attempts to foster an appreciation for photography. The club sponsors photo shootsand photo contests throughout the year. Mr. Ronald Stuart is the moderator.S.A.D.D.Students Against Destructive Decisions concerns itself with the education of the schoolcommunity with regard to the dangers of substance abuse. Ms. Nancy Drennan is themoderator.SCIENCE CLUBThe <strong>Fenwick</strong> Science Club is devoted to the idea that science is not confined to theclassroom. Exposure to science beyond the confines of the classroom can be an enrichingand rewarding experience. Mr. Bernard Rudnik is the moderator.SCHOLASTIC BOWLThe Scholastic Bowl is a competitive team activity with questions based upon differentsubject areas such as: math, science, literature, grammar, religion, history, art, and currentevents. <strong>Fenwick</strong> competes against other teams in the league with team members buzzingin (much like the show Jeopardy) to answer questions and score points. Mr. Draski is themoderator.SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAMSThe highly successful Speech Teams can be divided into two basic units: Debate andIndividual Events. All interested <strong>student</strong>s may take part in one or all of these categories.Ms. Mary Beth Logas and Mr. Andrew Arellano are the moderators.LANGUAGE CLUBSThe Language Clubs give <strong>student</strong>s a taste of different cultures beyond what is learned in theclassroom. The clubs have sponsored parties, restaurant trips and have attended lectures-38--39-
