PARKINGPROCEDURES AND REGULATIONSStudents who drive to school must register their vehicle(s) with the Deans Office. If a<strong>student</strong> drives to school, he/she is expected to obey all governmental rules and regulationsregarding operation of a motor vehicle and parking.Because parking in the school lot is restricted to faculty and staff during the school day, <strong>student</strong>sare urged to participate in the Village of Oak Park’s <strong>Fenwick</strong> Student Permit Parking Programor to park in the public lot open at Oak Park and Madison. Participants in the permit parkingprogram can purchase a green FSPP permit from the Village of Oak Park. This enables them topark in those zones reserved for <strong>Fenwick</strong> <strong>student</strong>s on Adams Street, Washington Boulevard,Randolph Street, and South Boulevard.<strong>Fenwick</strong> <strong>student</strong>s are expected to demonstrate consideration and courtesy for our neighbors atall times. Students should refrain from playing loud music, using foul language, and littering.Failure to report a vehicle or to observe these rules may result in one or more of the following:1. Detention and demerits2. Ticketing by police3. Loss of after school parking privileges in the school lotATTENDANCEA <strong>student</strong>'s absence must be reported by phone before 8:45 a.m. on the day of that absence.Upon returning to school, the <strong>student</strong> is to bring a note from a <strong>parent</strong>(s) or legal guardian(s)stating the date and reason for the absence. This note is to be presented at the AttendanceOffice before the first class on the day the <strong>student</strong> returns to school. A telephone call isrequired for every day of absence.TYPES OF ABSENCEExcused Absence: an absence is excuded when a <strong>student</strong> misses school because of personalillness, death or serious illness in the family, an emergency or a situation beyond a<strong>student</strong>’s control (ie. life-threatening). Unexcused Absence: an absence is unexcusedwhen a <strong>student</strong> misses school for trips (without three weeks' notice), is truant, is dismissedfrom class for disciplinary reasons, leaves the building without permission from a Dean orcuts class(es).Any <strong>student</strong> who has an excessive number of absences in a semester, most probably, willlose all credits for that semester, with all cases subject to review by the Disciplinary Board.ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES1. A <strong>student</strong> who is late for school or for any class must report to Student Servicesto obtain an admit slip before going to class. Unexcused tardiness will result inan after school detention. Failure to appear after school for detention may resultin suspension.2. Any <strong>student</strong> who is tardy (unexcused) for class an excessive number of times in asemester may be dropped from that class and no credit will be given for thecourse, with all cases subject to review by the Disciplinary Board.3. The State of Illinois places legal responsibility for school attendance upon the<strong>parent</strong>(s) and/or guardian(s). <strong>Fenwick</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> considers a <strong>student</strong> who isabsent without consent of <strong>parent</strong>(s) or guardian(s) and the school, to be truant.Truancy will be dealt with severely and may result in suspension with a view toexpulsion.4. An absence due to truancy, out of school suspension or dismissal from class fordisciplinary reasons is unexcused. In these cases the teacher is not obligated toassist the pupil in making up the assignment work, tests or laboratoryexperiments that have been missed. The <strong>student</strong> may not receive credit for anywork missed during these times and may not participate in extracurricularactivities.5. In some cases a Dean may require a physician’s note for absences. If the Deandeems a <strong>student</strong> has excessive tardies or absences for the first semester, a <strong>parent</strong>conference may be required for admission to the school for the second semester.-14--15-
