unnecessarily complic<strong>at</strong>ed, <strong>and</strong> intuitive ways <strong>of</strong> navig<strong>at</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> selecting from content<br />
menus need to be cre<strong>at</strong>ed to enhance <strong>the</strong> user experience.<br />
“New <strong>interaction</strong> techniques for <strong>TV</strong> are currently a hot industry topic, yet while we do<br />
not dismiss <strong>the</strong>se as methods <strong>of</strong> enhancing <strong>the</strong> navig<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>and</strong> discovery experience,<br />
<strong>the</strong>y will not replace remote <strong>control</strong> <strong>devices</strong>,” said Ferdin<strong>and</strong> Maier, CEO, <strong>ruwido</strong>.<br />
“People <strong>at</strong> home do not want to move away from <strong>the</strong> experience <strong>the</strong>y are used to <strong>and</strong><br />

for functions such as search for known content. By saying <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> a favourite actor,<br />
<strong>the</strong> search engine could find content starring th<strong>at</strong> person, but when people would like to<br />
browse through an on-dem<strong>and</strong> library or <strong>the</strong>y would like to volume up or down, <strong>the</strong><br />
remote <strong>control</strong> is <strong>the</strong> perfect method <strong>of</strong> doing so. Navig<strong>at</strong>ion via voice <strong>control</strong> alone is<br />
not enough. A hybrid solution, incorpor<strong>at</strong>ing voice with <strong>the</strong> organic haptic concept <strong>of</strong><br />
‘aura’, would be a real possibility <strong>and</strong> one th<strong>at</strong> we see as part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>future</strong> <strong>of</strong> input <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>interaction</strong> in <strong>the</strong> living room.”<br />
