JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION:REPORTS TO:DEPARTMENT:SECURITY OFFICERSECURITY SUPERVISOR AND FACILITIES MANAGEROPERATIONSThis position involves working with a team of <strong>security</strong> <strong>officer</strong>s <strong>to</strong> provide an efficient andprofessional <strong>security</strong> service <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Albert</strong> <strong>Hall</strong>, its staff and patrons.MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Provide a professional, efficient, and approachable <strong>security</strong> service with associatedswitchboard and reception duties, maintaining a high level of cus<strong>to</strong>mer service <strong>to</strong> staff andvisi<strong>to</strong>rs at all times.2. Carry out internal and external patrols, day and night <strong>to</strong> ensure a safe and secureenvironment, recording maintenance issues, potential breaches of <strong>security</strong> or unusualoccurrences in the ‘Daily occurrence book’.3. To provide visi<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Hall</strong> with helpful advice, guidance and information and if not able<strong>to</strong> do so, direct <strong>to</strong> other members of staff who can assist.4. Ensure that those who should not be granted access <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Hall</strong> are professionally andpolitely prevented from gaining access or escorted from the building.5. Provide support in an emergency or evacuation situation, in a calm and professionalmanner. Actively provide information <strong>to</strong> any emergency services when requested <strong>to</strong> do so.6. As part of the team undertake regular testing of fire alarms and other <strong>security</strong>equipment, completing the appropriate logs, and notifying the Security Supervisor or Headof Operations of any issues of malfunctioning equipment.7. Ensure and regularly check that the <strong>Hall</strong>’s fire exit doors are maintained free ofobstructions and that the chains are removed when the <strong>Hall</strong> is occupied, reporting anydefects or maintenance issues as appropriate.8. Moni<strong>to</strong>r and respond immediately <strong>to</strong> alarm system activations <strong>to</strong> check designated areasof concern. Effectively use the <strong>Hall</strong>’s PA system <strong>to</strong> notify <strong>Hall</strong> staff and patrons ofsituations or actions required of them.9. Ensure that the <strong>Hall</strong>’s CCTV system is professionally, effectively and sensitively moni<strong>to</strong>redin compliance with the <strong>Hall</strong>’s agreed standards.10. Conduct individual bag or property searches, if directed <strong>to</strong> do so by the Duty Manager or asenior manager.11. Ensure the effective control and maintenance of keys and <strong>security</strong> equipment includingany equipment e.g. radios.December 2010


12. Conduct routine <strong>security</strong> administration including the issue of wrist bands, <strong>Hall</strong> visi<strong>to</strong>rpasses and, permits. Ensure that any lost property left at the <strong>Hall</strong> is securely s<strong>to</strong>red,recorded and retrieved for the owner where appropriate.13. Maintain all <strong>security</strong> related equipment and working areas <strong>to</strong> a high standard ofcleanliness and safety and ensure all defects are reported.14. Complete relevant records and log books, in a professional manner providing sufficientdetail.15. During the show licence period respond <strong>to</strong> requests for assistance from the Duty Manager,stewards or other members of staff and management during the office hours. Wherenecessary assist in the removal or escort of members of the public from the building wheretheir behaviour is disruptive or presents a risk <strong>to</strong> others.16. Respond <strong>to</strong> requests <strong>to</strong> move on <strong>to</strong>uts and vagrants from the <strong>Hall</strong>’s property and ensurethat staff and audience are not harassed by providing a visible <strong>security</strong> presence.17. Support and comply with the <strong>Hall</strong>’s Fire, Health and Safety, and Security policies andprocedures.18. Undertake first aid training and provide first aid services <strong>to</strong> staff, visi<strong>to</strong>rs or patrons asrequested.19. Working with a Building Service Technician or Fire Officer, carry out the evacuation ofpeople from lifts, <strong>to</strong> minimise panic and ensure the safety of all concerned.20. Assist in the induction and training of new members of the team.21. Where required work as a Duty Fire Officer (training will be provided) during events <strong>to</strong>patrol the building and report potential risks <strong>to</strong> the Duty Manager.22. Deal with any suspicious packages, maintaining own and others safety and dealing withthese in accordance with <strong>Hall</strong> procedures.23. Actively maintain the confidentiality of information <strong>to</strong> which Officers will be privy, be thisaround individuals or <strong>security</strong> sensitive information in relation <strong>to</strong> the Building, and usingappropriate language, particularly within the public stage door working environment.24. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Security Supervisor,Head of Operations, Duty Manager and/or <strong>Hall</strong>’s management.December 2010
