"Pete" White Chair for Innov<strong>at</strong>ion in Engineering Educ<strong>at</strong>ion.According to the call for nomin<strong>at</strong>ions, the chair was cre<strong>at</strong>ed by AmericanElectric Power to honor Pete White, in order to "celebr<strong>at</strong>e and illustr<strong>at</strong>e innov<strong>at</strong>iveapproaches to teaching using technology. The award was approved <strong>at</strong> the recent Board of Visitors'meeting. Feng is the primary architect for HokieSpeed, which is the newest supercomputer<strong>at</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> and ranks eleventh on the Green500 list. TheGreen500 list, cre<strong>at</strong>ed by Feng and Dr. Kirk Cameron, associ<strong>at</strong>e professor incomputer science, ranks the world's most energy efficient supercomputers. Dr.Barbara Ryder, J. Byron Maupin Professor of Engineering, says Dr. Feng "is anextraordinary researcher in high-performance computing systems, whose workhas had gre<strong>at</strong> impact on his field.
