JimJasion has agreed to accept that position and hasstarted working with the NJJS and the Institute <strong>of</strong>Jazz Studies to get t<strong>his</strong> project underway. We thankJim and look forward to making progress on t<strong>his</strong>important jazz society initiative.■ Also, we have <strong>some</strong>thing new for the NJJS. Asyou’ll see in t<strong>his</strong> issue, the 37th Annual JazzRecord Collectors’ Bash will be held at theWoodbridge Hilton June 13-14 — one week afterour Jazzfest. If you have LPs, etc. that you want tosell and/or trade, that’s the place to be. We’vecollaborated with the organizers to be able to <strong>of</strong>fera discount for NJJS members <strong>of</strong> $5 <strong>of</strong>f a table($70–$80) and $1 <strong>of</strong>f the admission charge. TheNJJS will be there with new volunteer Greg Winterselling LPs from our collection. I suggest you actquickly if you want to rent space. T<strong>his</strong> event hasbeen going on for 37 years but it’s under newguidance from Jim Eigo and Arthur Zimmermanand we hope it’s successful. Please support theirefforts to help keep t<strong>his</strong> very interesting weekendalive.■ As part <strong>of</strong> our educational outreach efforts wewere privileged to present the Generations <strong>of</strong> Jazzprogram at the recent Arts Council <strong>of</strong> Morris AreaShowcase at the Shakespeare Theatre at Drew U.All the performing groups are selected by ACMApersonnel for their excellence in their field,Tell them you saw it in Jersey Jazz!whether it’s jazz or science or dance. Pam Purvis,Generations Music Director, and the other musiciansdid a fine job and we’ve already <strong>got</strong>ten bookings.We’ll be getting a DVD soon from thatShowcase performance, and we’ll put that video onour website. Why not think <strong>of</strong> recommending theGenerations program for your local school, libraryor other community organization?■ On May 18 we’re hosting our Monthly Meetingat Trumpets in Montclair (see ad page 5). I am sopleased to tell you that I was able to book a wonderfulall-female salsa band to entertain us.CoCoMaMa (www.cocomamamusic.com) is madeup <strong>of</strong> eight extraordinary women, five <strong>of</strong> whomwill be with us on Sunday afternoon from 3–5 PMfor a panel discussion <strong>first</strong> <strong>of</strong> how the groupformed and where they hope to go with it, alongwith our usual Q&A period and then, time permitting,we’ll have <strong>some</strong> music. Trumpets hasagreed to hire the band for their dinner show(with only a $10 music charge). So, plan to staythrough to hear <strong>some</strong> outrageous music whileenjoying your dinner.■ Jazzfest is right around the corner and we havecreated a line-up sure to please you.
