Technical Product informationMarine CablesMaterialsInsulationAll marine cables are insulated with Cross-LinkedPolyethylene (XLPE) according to IEC 60092-351,type HF-XLPE. This material allows a continuousconductor temperature of 90 °C and withstands atemporary overload temperature of 130 °C and ashort-circuit temperature of 250 °C. This materialoffers good low temperature properties with abrittleness temperature of approximately -50 °C.TKF’s XLPE material shows very low dielectriclosses when used in power cables and excellenttransmission properties for the instrumentationand communication cables. It also has extremelylow moisture absorption, and a high resistance tomost chemicals. The Fire-Resistant cables haveconductors fully wrapped in mica-glass tapebefore being insulated with XLPEinsulation.SheathingStandard TKF marine cables have a SHF1 type,halogen-free, flame retardant, low-smoke sheath. This sheath has very good abrasion resistance, good mechanical properties, low moistureabsorption and high resistance to most chemicals. The material meets the requirements as specifiedin IEC 6092-359 under type SHF-1 for mechanicalproperties, as well as the IEC 60811-2-1 for oilresistance(ASTM oil 2, 4 hours, 70 °C)The selected sheath material makes TKF marinecables are very suitable for installation and usagein areas with low temperatures. If the cables areexposed to direct sunlight protective covering orblack outer sheath is recommendedOn request special sheath materials can beapplied (e.g. TPU or SHF2) for more extremeconditions.Armouring and ScreeningAll TKF’s braided cables (designated with the “O”in the type designation) have tinned-copper wirebraiding with a coverage of at least 90%. Thetinned wires give a high corrosion resistance ofthe braid and offer both mechanical and EMIprotection. Screened cables (“af” typedesignation) offer only EMI protection with alu-PET tapes in combination with a tinned copperdrain wire.International StandardsThe Marine cables in this catalogue are designedand tested in accordance with the followingstandards, where applicable.StandardIEC 60092-350IEC 60092-351IEC 60092-352IEC 60092-353IEC 60092-354IEC 60092-359IEC 60092-376IEC 60228IEC 60331-11IEC 60331-21IEC 60332-1IEC 60332-3-22 - AIEC 60754-1IEC 60811IEC 61034seriesDescriptionGeneral construction and test methodsof power, control and instrumentationcables for shipboard and offshoreapplicationsInsulating materials for shipboardoffshoreunits, power, control, instrumentation, telecommunication and data cablesElectrical installations in ships –Choiceand installation of cables for lowvoltagepower systemsSingle and multicore non-radial fieldpower cables with extruded solidinsulation for rated voltages 1 kV and 3kVSingle- and three-core power cableswith extruded solid insulation for ratedvoltages6 kV (Um = 7.2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36kV)Sheathing materials for shipboard powerand telecommunication cablesCables for control and instrumentationcircuits 150/250 V (300 V)Conductors of insulated cablesTests for electric cables under fireconditions - circuit integrity - apparatus- fire alone at a flame temperature of atleast 750 °CTests for electric cables under fireconditions - circuit integrity -procedures and requirements - cables ofrated voltage up to and including0.6/1.0 kVTests on electric cables under fireconditions - part 1: test on a singlevertical insulated wire or cableTests on electric cables under fireconditions - part 3-22: test for verticalflame spread of vertically mountedbunched wires or cables - category ATest on gases evolved during combustionof electric cables - determination of theamount of halogen acid gasCommon test methods for insulating andsheathing materials of electric cablesMeasurement of smoke density ofelectric cables burning under definedconditionsVersion: PN-M01J11 Subject to technical alterations Page 1 / 4This datasheet is put together with great care. Forhigher frequencies, the current rating shall becalculated with an appropriate method (e.g. IEC60287). For other ambient air temperatures thecorrection factors have to be applied. Theseratings are applicable, without correction factors, for cables bunched together on cable trays, incable conduits, pipes or trunking, unless morethan six cables operating simultaneously at theirfull rated capacity are laid close together withoutfree air circulating around them. In this case acorrection factor of 0.85 should be applied. Thetables are for general reference purposes only, and do not describe all installation methodsexisting in practice. Marine CablesInternational standards and approvalsAll marine cables are designed and producedaccording to international standards. TKF marinecables fully comply with the requirements specifiedin the IEC 60092 series of standards.

Marine & OffshoreGreen PassportAs one of the first cable manufacturers, TKF has registered with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) a declaration ofconformity for a "Green Passport" for ships, in June 2009. A Green Passport is an inventory of materials presentin a ship’s structure, systems and equipment that may be hazardous to health and / or the environment. TheGreen Passport was adopted by the IMO by resolution A.962 Clean Design / Green Passport.A Green Passport is granted to a ship when build. On completion of the ship,a class society such as DNV issues a certificate of compliance. This, togetherwith the inventory of hazardous materials and declarations that the ship isfree of certain materials, form the Green Passport. This passportaccompanies the ship throughout its working life. The final ship ownerdelivers the Green Passport together with the vessel to the recycling yard, sothat hazardous materials in the ship can be identified and disposed of in anenvironmentally clean and safe way.Yard owners and sub-suppliers must ensure that certain materials areexcluded for new-build ships. Also, they must declare all materials that have been included according to variouscategories required by IMO.TKF marine cables are completely free of hazardous substances and may therefore be used in a ship with aGreen Passport, and do not have to be listed on the inventory of hazardous materials.Version: 23-06-2009 Subject to technical alterations www.tkf.nl
