The relevance of our research activityfor business in fields such as entrepreneurship isdemonstrated by our recent national survey for theFederation of Small Businesses on the impact of theeconomic downturn on small businesses. This went onto be widely reported in the media.The Charles P. Skene Centrefor EntrepreneurshipBased within the University, the Centre has a reputationfor academic excellence for both teaching and researchin entrepreneurship. Our main goal is to inspire ourstudents to explore entrepreneurial opportunities andto equip you with the appropriate knowledge and skillsto build the businesses of tomorrow.Our staff have a wealth of expertise and experiencewhich enables us to teach, research and promoteenterprise effectively whilst striving to build on ourreputation within these areas. Prior to joining AberdeenBusiness School in April 2010, he held the post ofHead of Dundee Business School at the University ofAbertay. He is the newly appointed Chair of the OilIndustry Finance Association, the body which setsStandard Oil Accounting Procedures for the North Seaoil industry. His research includes oil and gas accountingand regulation and has taken him around the world,working with institutions in Kuwait, Nigeria, Australiaand China. Professor Russell is currently supervisinga range of PhDs.Dr Farooq AhmadCourse Leader, Financial ManagementFarooq joined the University in 2005 after completinghis PhD in Finance from the University of Stirling. Hismain research area is gilt market, fixed income securitiesand financial markets efficiency analysis. He specialisesin undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of FinanceTheory, Corporate Financial Management andInternational Finance. Farooq has previously worked asLecturer and Assistant Professor of Finance at theQuaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and as PostDoctoral Research Fellow at the Research Departmentof the State Bank of Pakistan.Carol AirCourse Leader, Purchasingand Supply Chain ManagementPrior to joining the University, Carol worked asa Purchasing and Supply Chain Professional, gainingextensive experience in supply chain re-engineering.She was primarily involved in the procurement ofelectronics and mechanical hardware in high and lowvolume global manufacturing environments. At RGUshe teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduatelevel in the areas of Strategic Purchasing, PurchasingPrinciples and Operations Management .In addition to her first degree in business, MBA and PostGraduate Teaching Qualification, she is a full memberof; The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplyand The Institute of Operations Management.Carol’s research interests include; management decisionmaking, MoD supply chains and public procurement.MOIRA BAILEYCourse Leader, Health Safetyand Risk ManagementBefore joining the University, her roles includedPersonnel and Training Manager, Further Educationlecturer and a freelance trainer and HR consultant.Moira’s particular interests are in the improvementof student awareness and competency in relationto Continuing Professional Development (CPD).She delivers ‘Securing Your Business’, a CPD coursedeveloped in conjunction with Grampian Police, andshe is also a committee member and CPD Advisor forthe North of Scotland and Islands Branch of the CIPD.Moira is also a licensed user of ‘Thinking Styles’, ametacognitive psychometric instrument which can beused as a management, team building or developmentaltool. Her particular research interests are CPD, InformalLearning and The Psychological Contract. Moira hasrecently commenced an EdD research project with theUniversity of Stirling, focusing on Informal Learning inrelation to Professional Competence.DR AHMED BELOUCIFCourse Leader, International BusinessAhmed joined the department as Course Leader forInternational Business in 2001. He has lectured for morethan 20 years at both undergraduate and postgraduatelevel as well as delivering consultancy and trainingworkshops in the UK, Kazakhstan and Algeria.Ahmed’s research interests include corporate failureand financial scandals with his PhD research based on‘Assessment of Relationship Quality: Auditors-ClientRelationships in the UK’. He has published severalarticles in a number of journals including the Journal ofFinancial Services Marketing, the International Journalof Knowledge Management, Culture and ChangeManagement, the European Business Review and theJournal of Current Research in Global Business.12 A CLEAR FUTURE13
