Check the calendar in the Student Handbook andCatalog or on the <strong>OFTC</strong> web site for dates.New Student RegistrationNew Student Registration is a session for new, transfer, andreadmit students prior to the start <strong>of</strong> classes. New StudentRegistration is held at the North campus, South Campus,Jefferson County Center, Hancock County Center, and LOIC.• Students registering on or after the first day <strong>of</strong> class will becharged a late fee.


Registration Phases Cont’d…OrientationOrientation is held before classes begin. Students willhave the opportunity to buy books on this day. Afterattending orientation, you will purchase your booksat the bookstore. Orientation is held at the Northcampus, South Campus, Jefferson County Center,Hancock County Center, and LOIC.


Transferability <strong>of</strong> Courses and ProgramsAll Associate <strong>of</strong> Applied Science Degree programs <strong>of</strong>fered at<strong>Oconee</strong> <strong>Fall</strong> <strong>Line</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> are terminal programs.-Acceptance <strong>of</strong> transfer credit from <strong>Oconee</strong> <strong>Fall</strong> <strong>Line</strong><strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> is the decision <strong>of</strong> the receivinginstitution.-Questions concerning the transferability <strong>of</strong> courses andprograms must be addressed with the receiving institutionprior to taking the courses or programs, if a higher level <strong>of</strong>degree is being sought.

Assessment Center<strong>OFTC</strong>’s Assessment Centersprovides testing andassessment services tostudents, applicants, andemployees <strong>of</strong> area businessand industry. Assessmentsavailable include COMPASS,CareerScope (if you’reundecided about a major),WorkKeys, MOUS, and NOCTI.COMPASS and CareerScopeare also available at ourcenters.


TRACS Center- Located at the South Campus;however all services are available on North Campus• TRACS (Tutoring, Referral, Assessment, Career Services) Center: The TRACS Center <strong>of</strong>fers supportservices for students on both North and South Campuses.• Tutoring: Provided to all <strong>OFTC</strong> credit students, along with study and test-taking skills.• Referrals: Made to <strong>OFTC</strong> students for pr<strong>of</strong>essional guidance and counseling with personal,social, and <strong>edu</strong>cation concerns. Student GovernmentAssociationThe Student GovernmentAssociation (SGA), which iscomposed <strong>of</strong> representativesfrom the student body,promotes the school to thecommunity and works toimprove the quality <strong>of</strong>technical <strong>edu</strong>cation. SGAmeets monthly and organizescampus activities for eachquarter. SGA also provides aforum for student expressionand a channel <strong>of</strong>communication betweenstudents andadministration/faculty.


GOAL• The GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award <strong>of</strong> Leadership)program is co-sponsored statewide by the Business Council <strong>of</strong>Georgia and the State Board <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> System<strong>of</strong> Georgia. <strong>Oconee</strong> <strong>Fall</strong> <strong>Line</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> and its StudentGovernment Association co-sponsor GOAL locally.• The main objectives <strong>of</strong> the GOAL program are to spotlight theimportance <strong>of</strong> technical <strong>edu</strong>cation in a modern society, toreward students who excel in learning a skill, to encouragepride in workmanship, to generate a greater respect andappreciation for the working person, and to emphasize thedignity <strong>of</strong> work in today’s society.

GrievancePolicy• If there is a grievance or complaint, a student should first discussthe issue with the instructor or staff member involved.• If not satisfactorily resolved, then the student should follow theStudent Grievance policy.• The policy is posted in the Student Centers, on the <strong>OFTC</strong> website,and in the <strong>OFTC</strong> Student Handbook and Catalog.


Safety and SecurityIn emergency situations,uniformed security <strong>of</strong>ficers, theEmergency Coordinator, theAlternate Coordinator andevening Administrators inCharge (AIC) serve as CampusSecurity Officers. The SecurityOfficers will provide assistancein both external and internaldisruptions. In such incidents,the security <strong>of</strong>ficer's directionsare to be followed explicitly byall visitors, students andemployees.


Academic Honors• President’s List: students who achieve a3.5 or higher GPA completing 12 credithours or more.• Dean’s List: students who achieve 3.0or higher GPA completing 7 credithours or more.• Honor Graduate: degree or diplomaprogram graduate with a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.5 orhigher in program required courseswith no grade below a “C.”• National <strong>Technical</strong> Honor Society: aftercompleting 30 credit hours at <strong>OFTC</strong>,diploma and degree seeking studentsattaining a 3.5 or higher.

Grade Point AverageQuarterly GPA -is calculated by dividing the total number <strong>of</strong> quality points by the totalnumber <strong>of</strong> credit hours attempted in a quarter.Cumulative GPA -is an attempt to reflect the total credit instructional activity <strong>of</strong> the student.The CGPA is not affected by program <strong>of</strong> study, changes in program <strong>of</strong>study, or student classification. The cumulative grade point average is thatgrade point average calculated on all attempts at all credit courses takenat the institution. The cumulative grade point average is recalculated aftereach quarter to include the current quarter’s grades.Graduation GPA -is calculated only on those courses required for graduation. When a courseis taken more than once, the final grade will be used in calculating thegrade point average for graduation. A 2.0 grade point average is neededfor graduation.


Academic ProbationThe purpose <strong>of</strong> academic probation is to alert students to thefact that their academic performance is not acceptable and topoint out the possible consequences if improvement is not mad<strong>edu</strong>ring the next semester <strong>of</strong> enrollment. Students must maintain aminimum <strong>of</strong> a 2.0 cumulative grade point average to be insatisfactory academic standing. Students whose semester gradepoint average falls below a 2.0 will be placed on academicprobation for the next academic year.


Academic Suspension and Dismissal• Students who fail to remove themselves from academicprobation by attaining a minimum 2.0 GPA the next semesterin attendance after being placed on suspension will beacademically dismissed for three semesters.• A student who is dismissed from the <strong>College</strong> may appeal theirsuspension or dismissal by filing a written appeal with the VicePresident <strong>of</strong> Academic and Student Affairs within 10 calendardays from the first day <strong>of</strong> class <strong>of</strong> the following term thesuspension or dismissal status was attained.

Exemption Exams• You may receive credit for courses by passing an institutionalexemption exam.• Complete the Application for Credit by ExemptionExamination form in the Admissions Office.• Pay fee <strong>of</strong> $50 per course prior to taking exam.• Present photo ID to test administrator.• Receive at least an 80 score on the exam. A grade <strong>of</strong> “EX” willbe entered on the permanent record if the exemption exam issuccessfully completed. Quarter to Semester (Q2S)What is the difference between the quarter and the semestersystems?• The quarter system divides the academic year into four 10-weekperiods. The semester system divides the year into <strong>Fall</strong> and Springsemesters, each 15 weeks long plus exam time. There is also asummer session with plus exam time. There is also a summer sessionwith 10 weeks <strong>of</strong> instruction plus exam time.• Under a semester academic calendar, <strong>Fall</strong> semester will begin inlate August and will end in mid-December. Spring Semester willbegin in early January and end in May. Summer session will begin inlate May and end in early August.• This summer session; however, is only 5 weeks to allow the launch <strong>of</strong>a semester academic year.


Student Email• An email account is created for all credit students when they are accepted or when theyregister for classes at <strong>OFTC</strong>. The email prefix is determined by a student’s Banner 3 rd party IDwhich is auto-generated by Banner when they are entered into Banner. Their email addresswill be in the form <strong>of</strong> username@student.<strong>of</strong>tc.<strong>edu</strong> and the initial password will be a student’s6-digit birthday in the format mmddyy. That email account will be maintained until a studenthas not registered for classes for two (2) consecutive terms AND has not logged into theirStudent email account within the last 30 days.
