He is founding Director of the Institute of DevelopmentalSciences at Southampton. His research concerns the ways in which the developmentalenvironment, and especially nutrition, affects cardiovascular, metabolic and behaviouralcharacteristics of the individual, influencing how well they respond to later challenges andthe resulting risks of disease. He is much involved in promoting the public understanding of thisarea of biomedical science.Caroline Fall MBChB, DM, FRCP, FRCPCH is a consultant paediatrician and Professor of InternationalPaediatric Epidemiology at the MRC Epidemiology Resource Centre, University of Southampton.Her research focuses on the effects of maternal and infant nutrition on obesity, diabetes andcardiovascular disease in later life.Sian Robinson PhD R Nutr is a Registered Nutritionist and a Principal Research Fellow at theMRC Epidemiology Resource Centre at the University of Southampton. She is responsible forthe nutritional components of two large UK cohorts run by the Epidemiology Resource Centre,the Southampton Women’s Survey and the Hertfordshire Cohort Study.
