AutomaticRaked Bar ScreenLow-maintenance verticaldesignThe Johnson Screens automatic rakedbar screen is a vertical, cable drivencoarse screen suitable for screeningsewage or raw water. The automatic raked bar screen istypically installed in a pumping station orthe inlet of sewage or water treatmentplants. The submerged section in contactwith the influent is a series of parallelbars that make up a fixed bar screen. As the influent flows through the parallelbars, it retains solids greater than the barspacing. The retained solids are extracted bymeans of a cable-driven raking systemthat lifts the solids outside the channeland discharges them into a hopper. Onone side of the raking system is a bucketwith the teeth, which is supported bythree cables and is activated by thewater level differential in the channel. The automatic raked bar screen isavailable in effective widths from 3.2 to20 ft (1 to 6 m) and channel depths from16.4 to 66 ft (5 to 20 m).Features and Benefits• Typical bar spacing from 1 to 4 in. (25 to 100 mm)• Robust yet simple cable-driven operation• 304SS or 316SS construction• Heavy-duty construction• No chains or sprockets, which are prone to clogging and failure• Vertical design saves on space and can be retrofitted into existing channels.• Hydraulic self-tightening system for cables.• All maintenance conducted outside the channel and above the deck.• Maintains a clean screen surface and low head loss.• Fully automatic operation.

Contra-Shear ®MilliscreenContra-shear—the originalrotary fine screenThe Contra-Shear Milliscreen model isthe industry standard when it comes torotary fine screening. Its a self-cleaning,internally fed rotary screen suitable forfine screening of sewage, industrialwaste water and process streams. With more than 15,000 installationsworldwide, Johnson Screens has by farthe most diverse application experiencein the industry. The Milliscreen rotary screen iscommonly installed above channel withthe influent either pumped or flowing bygravity into the screen. A weir tank insidethe screen drum balances the flow anddistributes it evenly over the rotatingscreen drum.Depending on the application, the drumcan be constructed out of Vee-Wire ®screen, perforated plate or mesh. Solidsare captured inside the screen drumwhere they are dewatered anddischarged using a series of diverterplates. The Milliscreen drum is cleaned by usingwater under moderate pressure throughtwo sets of sparge pipes that operateintermittently through a control system. The wide range of Milliscreen models arecapable of handling flow rates from 2.6to 14,795 gpm (0.6 to 3,360 m³/hr).Features and Benefits• Slot sizes from 0.01 to 0.24 in. Contra-Shear ®Suboscreen ®Contra-shear suboscreen:A unique horizontal designThe Contra-Shear Suboscreen drum is ahorizontal, semi-submerged, in-channelrotary drum screen suitable for finescreening of sewage and industrial wastewater. It is coupled with an integraldrainer screw press (DSP) that washes, dewaters and conveys the solids out ofthe channel. The Suboscreen model is installed semisubmergedin a channel at the inlet of theplant and most often does not requireany prescreening upstream. The screen drum is typically constructedout of Vee-Wire ® screen (perforated platedesign also available depending on theapplication). The influent entering theSuboscreen screen changes directionthrough 90 degrees as it exits throughthe screen, resulting in a higher captureof solids.Solids captured inside the screen drumare dropped into a central flume andtransported to the integral DSP bygravity and water jets. Critical to thescreen’s low head loss is the washsparge system, which ensures a cleanscreen face is always presented to theinfluent stream. The operation of the Suboscreen rotarydrum is normally linked to the pressuredifferential between upstream anddownstream levels in the channel. The Suboscreen model is capable ofhandling flow rates from 6,340 to 63,400gpm (1,440 to 14,400 m³/hr) through asingle unit.Features and Benefits• Slot sizes from 0.02 to 0.24 in. (0.5 to 6.0 mm) with Vee-Wire models• Slot sizes from 0.08 in. (2 mm) and up with perforated plate and mesh models• 304SS or 316SS construction• Low and consistent head loss• Self-cleaning operation• Low power consumption and operating costs• Compact, fully enclosed in-channel design• Heavy-duty construction• High solids capture• Integrated solids handling system

Centre-Flo ScreenThe centre-flo travellingband screenThe Centre-Flo screen is an in-channel,‘in-to-out’ type travelling band screensuited for screening water and wastewater. The design is unique and wellsuited for high flow rates with narrow anddeep channels, where other types ofscreens will not easily fit.Its modular design integrates screening, washing and dewatering of screenedsolids in a single compact unit. The Centre-Flo screen belt isconstructed of ultra high molecularweight polyurethane (UHMWPE) guidelinks and stainless steel grids, separatedby spacers that prevent any metal-onmetalwear.The influent enters the Centre-Flo systemand undergoes a 90 degree change indirection as it flows through thecontinuously moving screen belt.Stainless steel hooks, which areinterspersed within the grid assembly, liftthe solids that are greater than theopenings and drop them into a centralflume located at the top of the machine.A set of two sparge pipes with nozzlesspray water and dislodge solids that aretrapped in the screen belt. The solids arethen directed out of the screen into ascrew conveyor or screw press, througha flume system where they can be dewateredand compacted as required. The Centre-Flo travelling badn screen iscapable of handling flows of up to28,530 gpm (6,480 m³/hr) through asingle unit. Vee-Wire ® screen andperforated plate screen panels are alsooffered based on requirements.Features and Benefits• Slots range from 0.12 to 1.0 in. (3 to 25 mm)• 304SS or 316SS construction• Guide links are constructed of UHMWPE• Compact, modular, in-channel design• Combines screening and solids handling within a single unit• Low and consistent head loss• Self-cleaning operation• Low power consumption and operating costs• All maintenance conducted outside the channel and above the deck

ScreenmatStep Screenfine screening using ascreenmatThe Screenmat is a step screensuited primarily for screening sewageand is typically installed in a channelat an inclination of 30 to 40 degrees. The Screenmat consists of a seriesof stationary and mobile steps, alternating with each other. As theeffluent flows through the Screenmat,a screening mat develops along thesurface of the screen. The mobilesteps progressively lift the mat ofsolids along the incline of the screen.Once reaching the top of theScreenmat, the solids are dischargedby gravity into a screw conveyor orsimilar device. The low angle of inclination ensuresthat a screening mat is retainedcontinuously during the entireoperation and prevents the roll downencountered in steeper screens. Aconsistent screening mat contributesto a uniform and high solids capturerate. The Screenmat has a robust designthat is resistant to ambient stresses. It does not operate continuously;rather it operates based on thepressure differential across thescreen, which results in very lowoperating hours and costs for thescreen. The Screenmat can be veryeasily tilted up from the channelduring maintenance. The Screenmat step screen iscapable of handling flows from asingle unit up to 23,775 gpm(5,400 m³/hr).Features and Benefits• Bar spacing from 0.04 to 0.4 in (1 to 10 mm)• 304SS or 316SS construction• Compact, in-channel design• Low power consumption and operating costs• All maintenance conducted outside the channeland above the deck

contra-shear ®InclinedRotary ScreenInclined rotary screen forcombined screening andcompactionThe Contra-Shear inclined rotary screen(IRS) is used for fine screening of sewageand industrial effluent where screeningand solid extraction capability is desiredwithin a single unit. Installed at an angleof 35 degrees, the screen drum isconstructed out of Vee-Wire ® screen, however perforated plate and meshdesigns are also offered. The influent enters into the feed end ofthe screen drum and exits through theVee-Wire slots or holes, as the case maybe. Solids larger than the slots or holesare retained and build up on the screensurface. This buildup increases the headloss across the screen, which initiatesthe rotation of the screen drum. The cycle and frequency of operationdepends on the application and theamount of solids captured. The solids aredropped into a central trough by a seriesof baffles welded inside the screen drum.A screw press, located inside the trough, transports and dewaters the solids as ittravels upwards towards the dischargeend. An automatic sparge system, comprisedof two sparge pipes with nozzles, operates when the screen drum rotatesand keeps the drum clean. The IRS is capable of handling flow ratesfrom 1,188 to 20,253 gpm (270 to 4,600m³/hr) through a single unit.Features and Benefits• Slot sizes from 0.02 to 0.24 in. (0.5 to 6.0 mm) with Vee-Wire models• Slot sizes from 0.08 in. (2 mm) and up with perforated plate and mesh models• 304SS or 316SS construction• Single motor drives the drum and the screw press• Compact, fully enclosed in-channel design• Low and consistent head loss• Self-cleaning operation• Low power consumption and operating costs• Heavy-duty construction• High solids capture

screen compactorscreen compactor for a costeffective screening solutionThe screen compactor (SC) is an inchannelscreening solution for medium tolow flow rate and solid loadingapplications. The SC is supplied either asa stand alone unit or packaged into itsown tank for easy on-site installation. The SC is installed at an angle of 35degrees and combines screening, conveying, washing and dewateringwithin a single unit. The screen surface istypically constructed from Vee-Wire ® orperforated plate depending on theaperture required. The influent passes through the screensurface leaving behind solids greaterthan the screen aperture. A shaft less orshafted screw with a heavy-duty brushwound around its circumference scrapesthe screen surface clean whiletransferring the solids into a washing andcompacting zone prior to discharge. Theoperation of the SC is fully automatedbased on level differential in the channel. The SC is capable of handling flow ratesup to 3,170 gpm (720 m³/hr).Features and Benefits• Slots or holes ranging from 0.01 to 0.24 in. (0.25 to 6 mm)• 304SS or 316SS construction• Vee-Wire or perforated plate screen surface• Replaceable screen panels• Compact, in-channel design• Low power consumption and operating costs• All maintenance conducted outside the channel and above deck• Can be supplied with a bagging unit for the pressed solids• Up to 50 percent volume reduction of material

Package TreatmentPlantCombining screening, gritand grease removal in onecompact unitThe package treatment plant system isdesigned to provide both space and costsavings for the pre-treatment of sewagefrom cesspools and imhoff tanks.Raw sewage enters the tank, thenpasses through Vee-Wire ® screen orperforated plate screw screen, whichcaptures mostly inorganic solids greaterthan the screen opening. These solidsare compacted in the screw screen anddischarged while the screened sewageflows through the grit chamber. In the grit chamber, the flow velocitycauses the grit to settle. A longitudinalscrew conveyor carries over the settledgrit to a grit classifier. From there it isextracted and discharged using a thirdscrew. A built-in aeration system causesthe oil and grease to float and beremoved over a weir through a separatestorage zone built into the tank. Theprocess is fully automated and controlledthrough a programmable logic controller. The package treatment plant is suited tohandle flow rates up to 44,000 gpm(10,000 m³/hr).Features and Benefits• Stand alone, compact pre-treatment system• 304SS or 316SS construction• Eliminates elaborate civil works• Maximum separation efficiency• Fully enclosed unit prevents splashes and odor10
