Here arejust a few individuals and groups who have made a special effort for FamilyService in recent months.Students from Peeler Open Elementary’sKids Care Club donatedpajamas and books to thechildren residing at Clara Houseand Carpenter House, Family Service’sdomestic violence shelters.The after school service club isopen to grades K-5 and undertakesa community project eachmonth.Premier Federal Credit Union held a Hot Dogsale in support of Family Service of the Piedmont.The dedicated employees braved the 100 degreetemperatures to hold the sale which raised an astonishing$1,553.76!The members of the Alpha RhoChapter of Eta Phi Beta Sororitydonated a check to FamilyService for victims of domestic violenceto be used in purchasingsupplies for the shelter. Donationsincluded comfort items such as nicesoaps, hair styling products, pillows, blankets,slippers and robes. 2012 marked the fifth yearfor the program which honors women andmothers for Mother’s Day.As part of their Spring Missions,The Baptist Women’s Club atParkwood Baptist Church inHigh Point collected change todonate to Family Service of thePiedmont. $245 was collectedand donated in support of victimsof abuse. The group alsomade a huge donation of babyitems to be used by HealthyStart and shelter clients.Family Service was a recipient of the BB&TLighthouse project from BB&T inGreensboro. The group donated over$500 worth of bus passes for clientswho otherwise may not be able to affordfare to get to their appointments.The group also donated a large numberof books and therapy games to beused by outpatient mental healthcounselors.Memorial Presbyterian Church in Greensboro donated their benevolencefunds for the month of June to Clara House. The church unanimouslyvoted to support the shelter to benefit the women who areimpacted by abuse so that they can begin to rebuild their lives.Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in High Point donated $350 toFamily Service which was raised from their spaghetti dinner. Themonthly dinner features a variety of delicious Greek pastries and aspaghetti dinner and is open to the public.Family Service of the Piedmont’s FairviewFamily Resource Center (FFRC) received a$25,000 grant from Glaxo-Smith Kline tohelp fund the Kids Connect garden project,nutrition workshops, summer workshops,and two National Family Week events.“We are very grateful to Glaxo-Smith Klinefor this grant,” said Sue Spidell, the agency’sDirector of Family Support Services. “The funds will enable us to conductactivities and educational programs for children and families inSouthside and help fulfill our mission to build safe and healthy familiesthroughout the community.”Family Service of the Piedmont was proud to support and provide volunteersfor 2012 High Point Cycling Classic. The bike race downtownwas well attended by the community and showcased the city of HighPoint. Family Service received funds from this year’s Criterium and is excitedto participate in helping with theUSA Cycling National Championshipsnext year.With a commitment to service above self,Rotary Club of Funitureland donated$1,000 to support Family Service in itsmission of building safe and healthy familiesthroughout the community.
