Maintenance of Phallichthys tico Phallichthys tico is a small, fabulously beautiful species. Males grow to only about 2.5 cm, females up to 4.5 cm long. The species occurs only in the upper course of the river San Juan in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. These fishes are not particularly demanding as regards maintenance, although they do require constantly fresh, clean water with as low a germ count as possible.
