The initial hysteria about these fishes has by now subsided somewhat and importations are more regular. Nevertheless butterfly barbs have remained comparatively expensive fishes, because the collecting regions can be reached only with great logistical difficulty and expense,and one fact Barbus hulstaerti,female hasn’t altered to the present day: these little fishes are rather unproductive and hence uninteresting to professional breeders. All species look extraordinarily similar and can probably be distinguished from one another only in live coloration. It is also in no way certain that the method of identification used here is actually correct, as all who have explored the region ichthyologically are agreed that every stream contains its own different-looking population of butterfly barbs.
