TEEingoffYoungsters havea hole lot of funRichmond Golf Club has beenencouraging youngsters fromthe local community to give golfa go.Fun ‘tri-golf’ sessionshave been held in RichmondMethodist, St Mary’s andRichmond C of E primaryschools reaching out to over150 children.Richmond head pro JamesHare said: ‘It was great wewere able to introduce new skillsincluding putting, chipping andiron play to the children.“As well as teaching newgolf skills, we were also ableto highlight the importance offitness and sportsmanship to thesession. We would like to thankMichael Layfield, SwaledaleSchools Sports Coach forRavensworth Golf Clubwww.ravensworthgolfclub.co.ukarranging the sessions.”Juniors from the primaryschools were invited to a freetaste session held at the golf clubin the Easter holidays and 17juniors attended the session andhad a great time playing fun golfgames to learn the basics of golf.Richie Bastow, Richmond’snew Junior Coordinator said:‘Watching the juniors havinglots of fun and trying their bestis what it’s all about. Golf isa fantastic way for juniors tosocialise, gain confidence andacquire a range of essential lifeskills’. The club has yet againbeen awarded GolfMark HighAchiever status, showing itscommitment and enthusiasmto continue to improve juniorparticipation and facilitiesA great time was had by youngsters at Richmondto ensure a fun, safe and healthyplace to come to play. A new junioracademy has also been set upand runs on Saturday morningsat the club on its three-hole junioracademy course. Juniors involvedare also undertaking a Golf PassportAccreditation whilst being coached,to support them individually in theirgolfing development.
