It is a recognition of the violence that isperpetrated against women and girls in all countries of the world. On this day, 14February 2013, across the world, people will be rising and dancing in the streets, in theirhouses and in schools. They will be dancing as a protest against violence and there is acall for this to become a primary focus across the globe. At Ogilvie High School, our whole school danced. On the school oval, over 800 girls, women and men danced to the music of Break the Chain, the One Billion Rising Dayanthem, as a call for this violence to cease.Since the end of last year, dance students had been working with classes to teach them thedance that was choreographed by Lesley Graham. Staff and Home Groups have beenworking together, learning the dance, ready for this day.So, what an enormous amount of energy Venn there Dancers was! Together with Lisa Singh, LaborSenator, we danced. I want to recognise the compassion and heart of Eve Ensler, thewoman who began this rising and her wonderful work with women and girls who havebeen damaged by violence. Her instigation of this day and her energy have been seizedupon by communities across the world.Isabel Robertson 8ARisings will also happen in Hobart on Parliament Lawns at Salamanca on Saturday and atMONA on Sunday. This is the website for more information - www.onebillionrising.orgThanks to all those who worked so hard – Ms Graham, Dance leaders, staff and to ourdrummer, Tendeka, from the Migrant Resource Centre.Liz RyanCO-ORDINATORABSENCE HOTLINE6228 8890Call any time (24/7) toleave a message about astudent’s absenceSCHOOL BASED IMMUNISATION PROGRAM 2013The Hobart City Council is again co-ordinating this program which provides school studentsin Years 7, 9 and 10 with the opportunity to be vaccinated easily and effectively against arange of diseases.
