CrossRoads OperationChristmas ChildKick-off Day is Sunday,October 14!Look for the red and green balloons!Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to childrenin desperate situations around the world through gift-filledshoe boxes and the message of God’s unconditional love.They provide an opportunity for people of all ages to beinvolved in a simple, hands-on project that focuses on thetrue meaning of Christmas: Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift.Operation Christmas Child was started in 1990 by DaveCooke, a Welshman who felt moved to deliver gifts toRomanian orphans after seeing their living circumstanceson television. In 1993, Operation Christmas Child grew andwas adopted by Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian organizationrun by Franklin Graham.To date, Operation Christmas Child has collected anddistributed over 94 million shoe box gifts worldwide. Eachshoe box is filled with hygiene items, school supplies, toysand candy and is given to children regardless of gender,race, religion or age. When culturally appropriate, copiesof a book entitled The Greatest Gift of All, which has beentranslated into 130 different languages, are offered tochildren after the shoe box has already been distributed.Type text hereFollowing the shoe box distributions, local churches andour ministry partners are equipped with a 12-lesson Biblestudy course, titled The Greatest Journey, which introduceschildren to Jesus, shows them how to receive Him andfollow Him, and equips them to share their faith with familyand friends.In 2012, Operation Christmas Child will collect their 100millionth shoe box gift!
