Our fourth grade students celebrated National Poetry Month in April by selecting apublished poem to display on the library’s bulletin board for Poem in Your Pocket Day. Students then used those poemsto create found poems that are currently on display. Found poems are created by taking the words of the original poemand mixing them up to create a new poem. The results are impressive!!! Our kindergarten students learned about sunflowersand made sunflowers out of tissue paper and real sunflower seeds. Ms. Bauch, Ms. Raywood and Mrs. McCaffrey’s classes studiedthe history and culture of Japan and then exchanged letters with pen pals from Fukui-Shi. It was a wonderful learning experiencefor our students.Congratulations to first grader Aalayah Montgomery! She was the winner of the Enthusiastic Reader Award for North Jersey.She, along with her parents and Ms. Frazier, attended the awards luncheon at the Foundation for Educational AdministrationBuilding in Monroe Township, NJ on Saturday, March 28 th . She met author John Micklos, Jr. and received a goody bag full ofbooks. Eighty one students participated in the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program and will be receiving their free ticket to GreatAdventure at our Awards Ceremony later this month. We had 100 students that read 50 books or more this year as part of the50 Book Club. They will be attending a celebration at the <strong>Paterson</strong> <strong>Public</strong> Library on Thursday, <strong>June</strong> 4 for refreshments, fun andrecognition. On Wednesday, May 27 th , author Lisa Mullarkey visited our school. Her presentations were well received by allstudents and staff. She explained where she gets her inspiration from and how you must believe in yourself in order to accomplishyour goals. She also had dessert with contest winners and signed books for students. It was a day not soon to be forgotten.The <strong>Paterson</strong> <strong>Public</strong> Library will have free summer programming for all <strong>Paterson</strong> students from July 6 th to August 14 th .
