Citizenship Ceremoniesunder the nationality, immigration and asylumact 2002 all applicants aged 18 years or over whoare accepted for naturalisation as a british citizenare required to attend a citizenship ceremony.during this ceremony new citizens take the oathor affirmation of allegiance to her majesty theQueen and make a pledge of loyalty to the unitedkingdom. They are then presented with theircertificate of nationality.Torbay registration service provides regular groupceremonies. participants are welcome to bringguests with them (numbers to be arranged with thesuperintendent registrar). The ceremony providesan opportunity for Torbay council to welcome thenew citizens into the bay family and encourage themto take an active part in community life.
