24 • Visit us @ www.ChampNews.com CMBA The Champion • Wednesday 16 October 2013Put your moneywhere your mouth isThat’s just one wayof making sure youstick to your plan!Accountability – the fourth stage of my fourstep system.This is probably the easiest to implement butalso for many the scariest.Becoming accountable for your goal is aboutreally committing whole heartedly toachieving it, declaring it openly in the publicdomain and not allowing yourself to quit untilyou get there.If you make it too easy on yourself to give upthere is nothing to stop you falling into anothercycle of just beginning and failing.Hands up who hasn’t uttered the words ‘I’llstart again on Monday’?The fact is you started because you reallywanted to do it.So here’s the thing, quite simply you didn’thave enough skin in the game!What I mean by that is you didn’t haveenough at stake to make yourself do it.Now of course the stakes are going to bedifferent for everybody.For some it is financial, for some social and forothers mental.What I recommend is you factor in as manystakes as possible.Here are my top accountability tips.• 1. Declare your goal to as many people aspossible.Post it on Facebook, tell your partner, leteverybody at work know, tell your customers.You are much more likely to do it if you have toface the embarrassment of telling everybodyyou failed because you couldn’t resist thatchocolate bar or because you couldn’t bebothered to go out for that walk.• 2. Get an accountability buddy.Pick someone who has a similar goal, who isn’ta friend and who won’t let you off the hook.Agree to check in with each other daily andgive a two minute honest report on how youhave both done. Knowing that you will let theother person down if you don’t do it will helpto keep you on track.• 3. Put your money where your mouth is.Pick an amount of money that you really can’tafford to lose (or if you don’t have money youcan use anything you love and would hate tolose, shoes, earring, music etc).
