TERESA DUKE was born in Washington,DC in 1962. The daughterof two physicians, she spent much ofher childhood developing her passionfor art while painting alongside hermother. In 1987, the artist moved toWarrenton, VA while pursuing her MFAdegree at George Washington Universityunder the tutelage of WilliamWoodward. While there, she receivedthe Robert N. Alfandre award fordrawing. Afterwards, she spent severalyears in scenic Rappahannock Countydeveloping a love of plein air painting.Ms. Duke spent two years living innorthern New Mexico interpretingthe brilliant light and saturated colorsof the high desert. She studied withWolf Kahn during this time at theSanta Fe Institute of Fine Arts. Ms.Duke had the privilege of workingwith noted portrait master DanielGreene during the summer of 2009.CURRENTLY the artist lives andworks in Fauquier County, andteaches art to young people atWakefield School in The Plains, VA. Herpainting, Paddock at Keeneland waschosen for the 75th anniversary issueof Keeneland Magazine (fall 2011). Shewas a juried artist at last year’s PaintAnnapolis plein air event, and receivedan Honorable Mention for View DownSt. George Street. Youngblood Studioin The Plains, VA featured Ms. Duke’srecent work at their December 2011show.
