At present most <strong>of</strong> the hospitals in Kerala donot <strong>of</strong>fer such counselling services. In order to be <strong>of</strong> help to the patients, the basis<strong>of</strong> such services should be an understanding <strong>of</strong> how <strong>hysterectomy</strong> affects the life<strong>of</strong> those <strong>who</strong> undergo it. Hence it becomes important that systematic researchshould be undertaken to gather data regarding not only the physical impact <strong>of</strong><strong>hysterectomy</strong> but also its psycho<strong>social</strong> effects.Few studies have looked into the psycho<strong>social</strong> aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>hysterectomy</strong>, especiallythe changes in the quality <strong>of</strong> life brought about by the operation. The present studyaims to explore the physical, psychological and <strong>social</strong> changes brought about by<strong>hysterectomy</strong> in young working <strong>women</strong>.Objectives <strong>of</strong> the studyThe main objective <strong>of</strong> the study is to find out the psycho-<strong>social</strong> <strong>problems</strong> faced by<strong>women</strong> <strong>who</strong> underwent <strong>hysterectomy</strong>. The pilot study <strong>had</strong> two objectives;a) The Primary objective <strong>of</strong> the study was to do a literature review on theissues involved in Hysterectomy, which would clarify the concepts providedetails on the current statues <strong>of</strong> research, and help in arriving at certainhypothesis.
