She reported loss <strong>of</strong>libido and significant decease in interest in having sex. The couple triedlubricants and creams that combated the dryness but did not result in better sex asfar as Anna was concerned. She said that she felt frigid and <strong>had</strong> no interest in sex.Combined with this was the physical pain she <strong>had</strong> in terms <strong>of</strong> backache, jointpains and muscle aches. Since she was getting tired more easily, she <strong>had</strong> lessenergy and felt too fatigued to enjoy intimacy.Apart from seeking treatment for the urinary tract infections and consulting anorthopaedic doctor in relation to her backache and joint pains, Anna never soughttreatment for any <strong>of</strong> the other <strong>problems</strong> that she faced after <strong>hysterectomy</strong>. In spite<strong>of</strong> her husband’s insistence, she <strong>had</strong> refused to consult a doctor regarding hersexual <strong>problems</strong>. She <strong>had</strong> strong inhibitions regarding discussing the matter with adoctor. Even with the passage <strong>of</strong> several years, the sexual <strong>problems</strong> have persisted.The couple said that they have reached a ‘compromise’ in matters related to sex,but it was clear that the husband was unhappy about their post-<strong>hysterectomy</strong> sexlife since there was marked decrease in the frequency and the involvement <strong>of</strong> thewife in sexual intimacy.Anna believes that Hormone Replacement Therapy is harmful in the long run andrefuses to consider it. The gynaecologist <strong>who</strong> performed the <strong>hysterectomy</strong> <strong>had</strong><strong>of</strong>fered that option but <strong>had</strong> not given her much information on HRT. Anna’sfriends and acquaintances <strong>had</strong> told her that HRT was harmful and <strong>had</strong> advised hernot to opt for it.
