Between sets the piratesand wenches partied awaywhether chatting in themain room or in the anteroomwhere the food and drink layand large tables to facillitatethe many crews represented.This extra room is alsowhere the raffles were heldwith fifteen items beinggiven away to lucky winners.Included were such things asa commercial-sized CaptainMorgan beverage cooler, asword, a framed photo of theHMS Bounty, pyrate books,penis flytraps (don’t ask),cases of beer and matchingglasses, rum-filled chocolates,a full collection ofprinted issues of <strong>The</strong> <strong>Pyrates</strong><strong>Way</strong>, an HMS Bounty wooden sign, a very cute Captain Jack Sparrow deluxe crochetkey ring, Brigands CD sets, and the prize that collected the most raffletickets. . . a brand new, hand-made wooden mug with the flag mark of CaptainAvery on it that came with a matching leather mug strap AND a smaller woodenKILL FOR THE RUMDIE BY THE BLADELIVING THE PYRATES WAYmug-shot, donated by our own top vendor and friend of the magazine,Jack Burns of Old Bear Creek (see ad on next page).In addition to the raffle, <strong>The</strong> Brigands auctioned off the bigevent sign for <strong>The</strong> Pirate Third Salty Ball (a one-of-a-kinditem) AND the actual figurehead that sat upon the grill of theHellion.For those not in the know, the Hellion, flagship of <strong>The</strong> Brigands(see the cover of <strong>Issue</strong> #18), was disabled upon the rocksof Staten Island recently and was forced to be scuttled.But fear not, Captain Thighbiter of <strong>The</strong> Brigands has alreadyprocured <strong>The</strong> Hellion II and will have the vessel ready foroverland salvaging by summer.<strong>The</strong> evening was a complete success with over $600 broughtin from the raffle and an additional $300 from <strong>The</strong> Brigand’sauction. That with the incredible turn out of pyrates andwenches to be accounted for at the event, one can imagine agoodly amount being offered for both charities.. . . and one last item before we go.
