Lulu Island Winery At Lulu Island Winery (luluislandwinery.com), Metro Vancouver’s largest winery and biggest exporter of icewine to China in the world, developing a taste for icewines is easy. It takes up to 35 pounds of naturally frozen Okanagan grapes to make one 375-ml bottle of this delectably sweet wine, certified by the VQA (Vintner’s Quality Alliance). The Riesling Chardonnay icewine is a perennial favourite. Just 20 minutes from Vancouver International Airport, Lulu Island Winery is a perfect place for a party. In addition to the two big tasting rooms, a spacious hall hosts up to 200 guests. The spectacular building opened in 2009, just before Richmond served as an official Venue City for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. During the Games, the winery served as “China House” for the Chinese Olympic Committee. Isabella winery Nestled next to the Fraser River, Isabella Winery (isabellawinery.com) is a hotspot for icewines and fruit wines. From zinfandel to syrah, this unpretentious winery also has table wines covered. Ramon Fresneda, the longtime sommelier at Vancouver’s Pan Pacific Hotel, answers customer questions and suggests food pairings. Like Richmond’s other wineries, Isabella winery offers free tastings and free parking. Cheers!
