She tapped tHeslim pointed toe of her slipper nervously upon the slippery floor."Yes," she mused, "the music is glorious today. It just makes one wantto dance." The bejeweled hands fluttered to her heart and rested therelightly a moment, as if trying to restrain the emotions that the music arousedwithin her breast. Then; glancing into a mirror across the way, she noticed,to her horror, that her left ear showed. She rose quickly and, blushing, tripped up the stairs to a more secluded spot, where she rearranged herhair, ·ruffing it farther down over the truant ear and then covering it all witha net, so that only a soft curl here and there escaped to play against the foreheadand cheek. She looked at her wrist-watch and saw that it was alreadynine o'clock in the morning. Yawning in dismay, she ran to the steps and, desceT'.ding, caught her high French heel and vnenched it off."Oh, goodness gracious," she said. "They were the highest heels Ihad, too.
