The position will begin August 16, 2008.Summer salary may be available initially in order to establish a research program contingentupon availability <strong>of</strong> funds.Responsibilities: Responsibilities include the following: 1) teaching undergraduate courses inforest products processing <strong>and</strong> marketing <strong>and</strong> other classes, including the development <strong>of</strong> agraduate level course appropriate to the needs <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>and</strong> the c<strong>and</strong>idate's expertise, 2)planning <strong>and</strong> developing support for a research program focused on integrating forest productprocessing <strong>and</strong> marketing with emphasis on Appalachian hardwoods, <strong>and</strong> 3) service activitiesrelated to the forest products industries, specifically, marketing potentials <strong>and</strong> globalcompetitiveness <strong>of</strong> the Appalachian hardwood products. The incumbent will be expected toattract <strong>and</strong> mentor graduate students, to acquire extramural funding, <strong>and</strong> to publish researchresults in refereed research journals.Qualifications: An earned doctorate, with at least one degree in <strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>and</strong> Technology isrequired. Experience in forest products processing <strong>and</strong> marketing is desired. Demonstratedability to communicate with students, industry, the general public, <strong>and</strong> other scientists isessential.Program: The <strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>and</strong> Technology program at WVU is one <strong>of</strong> four program areas inthe Division <strong>of</strong> Forestry <strong>and</strong> Natural Resources. The program <strong>of</strong>fers degrees at the bachelor's,masters, <strong>and</strong> doctoral levels. The B.S. in <strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>and</strong> Technology is accredited by the<strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Science</strong> <strong>and</strong> Technology. The program has been working closely with theAppalachian Hardwood Center <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers numerous opportunities for collaboration betweenfaculty <strong>and</strong> research staff. The recently established Biomaterials <strong>and</strong> <strong>Wood</strong> Utilization ResearchCenter is affiliated with the program <strong>and</strong> has focused on developing new products, bio-fuels, <strong>and</strong>techniques that make better use <strong>of</strong> upl<strong>and</strong> hardwoods.Location: The West Virginia University main campus is located in Morgantown, a small city <strong>of</strong>45,000 in the Appalachian Mountains on West Virginia's northern border adjacent toPennsylvania. Morgantown was rated third in the United States among best metropolitan cities inwhich to live in The Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities, 1997 edition.
