Gently remove the wheel. Don't worry if the stays move together orapart a little. All that is necessary is for the angle between theseat and chainstays to remain the same. Proceed to braze the seatstayto the dropout in the same manner that you did the chainstay.Remove the clamp and take your seatstay chainstay assemblies thatyou have just brazed off the frame. Now is the best time to fileand finish the joints. Clean and flux the holes in the bottombracket, the ends of the seatstays and the seat lug.Brazing Chainstay Seatstay Assembly toMain FrameReinsert the assemblies onto the frame; put the perfectly dishecwheel all the way back into the dropouts. Tap the back of the dropoutsuntil the wheel is both centered between the chainstays and thechainstays are flush as possible with the inside of the bottom bracketshell. Next adjust the seat stays so that the wheel is alsocentered between the seat stays. When this is done, clamp the seatstayswith the pieces of wood and C clamp. Next, tie a string arouncone dropout. Run the string around the head tube and back to theother dropout. <strong>The</strong> string should be taught. An elastic string woulcwork even better. Measure the distance the string is away from theseat tube on both the left and right side of the frame (Fig. 7). Ifthe distance is not the same on both sides you will have to push therear triangle assembly either to the right or left depending on yourparticular problem. However, when you push the assembly you may finethe wheel is no longer centered between the stays. <strong>The</strong>refore youwill have to readjust the stays and then again check the string measurements. In some cases you may find that the wheel seems determinednot to sit in the proper place. This is usually caused by abent dropout. To correct this remove the chainstay seatstay assembly40
