certified by the Educational Council for<br />

Foreign Medical Graduates). Participants<br />

must have completed at least one year <strong>of</strong><br />

approved clinical internship or residency<br />

experience and be licensed to practice medicine<br />

in the U.S. or Canada, and must be U.S.<br />

or Canadian citizens or permanent residents.<br />

<strong>The</strong> program provides the academic (M.P.H.)<br />

year and the year <strong>of</strong> supervised field training<br />

(practicum year) in preventive medicine and<br />

public health required by the American Board<br />

Residency Program<br />

<strong>The</strong> University <strong>of</strong> California, San Francisco,<br />

campus administers a residency program in<br />

Intercampus Exchange Program<br />

Permission must be received from the student’s<br />

adviser, the deans <strong>of</strong> the <strong>School</strong>s <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and Graduate Divisions <strong>of</strong> both<br />

universities, and the chair <strong>of</strong> the department<br />

in which study is proposed. Students pay fees<br />

on the home campus and are considered resident<br />

students there. Arrangements are made<br />

for registration at the host campus and for<br />

transfer <strong>of</strong> grades to the home campus. Intercampus<br />

exchange forms are obtained from the<br />

Graduate Division <strong>of</strong> the home campus.<br />

Center for <strong>Health</strong> Leadership<br />

Started in 2008, the UC Berkeley SPH Center<br />

for <strong>Health</strong> Leadership (CHL) is designed to<br />

enhance the <strong>School</strong>’s curricular, co-curricular<br />

and experiential <strong>of</strong>ferings to inspire and<br />

prepare graduate students to be effective<br />

health leaders and pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. <strong>The</strong> Center<br />

also develops practical leadership programs,<br />

resources and conferences for alumni and<br />

health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />

<strong>The</strong> CHL builds on and expands leadership<br />

development activities <strong>of</strong>fered through<br />

the Center for <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Practice and<br />

throughout the SPH. It includes a student<br />

board, speaker series, practice based seminars,<br />

workshops, internships, a Leadership<br />

Fellows program, and community projects<br />

designed to strengthen leadership competencies<br />

and opportunities.<br />

<strong>The</strong> aims <strong>of</strong> the UCB Center for <strong>Health</strong><br />

Leadership include:<br />

• Support the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> mission<br />

to produce transformational leaders<br />

• Promote the importance <strong>of</strong> leadership across<br />

diverse health disciplines<br />

• Develop and enhance leadership competencies<br />

among students, faculty, alumni and the<br />

roles, better preparing them for the<br />

challenges <strong>of</strong> their first post graduate jobs and<br />
