At 7.45pm, in the Salle de jeux, “A Night at the Movies”, films directed andproduced by class 6 students.At 10pmIn the courtyard of the château, a theatre production in both English and French: “Tall Horse”by Khephra Burns, an extraordinary story which takes place in both Mali and in Europe. Theatre10.pmTo celebrate Rosey-Abantara’s completion.The story of an extraordinary giftfrom Africa to Europe.During Rosey’s annual visit to Mali,a young Frenchman arrives at theNational Museum in Bamako,seeking information about hisancestor, Atir, who was sent as a slaveto France in 1827. As the Museumcollection is brought to life, we moveback in time to tell the true story ofAtir’s journey from Africa to Europe.African kings have long sent animalsas gifts to other rulers. The mostdramatic version of this very Africanform of diplomatic initiative wasthe giraffe (Sogo Jan in the Malianlanguage), sent by Egypt’s Pasha as agift to France’s King, Charles X.Sogo Jan was accompanied by herMalian handler, Atir, during theentire 7,000 kilometre journey. Theirarrival in France was received withenthusiasm verging on hysteria. Tensof thousands thronged the route fromMarseille to Paris. The journey of theTall Horse influenced fashion, and issaid to have inspired the young Eiffel.
