Veterans <strong>Camp</strong> Fundraisers3 rd Annual Burgers & BikesWe are gearing up for the lastSaturday in July for the returnof the Combat Veterans MotorcycleAssociation’s (CVMA) 3 rd AnnualBurgers, Bikes & Rods benefit. Lastsummer’s rally was special for manyreasons. Joining the CVMA to supportVeterans <strong>Camp</strong> was the Road ScholarsCar Club. Fourteen beautifully restoredclassic cars and street-rods joinednearly 100 motorcycle enthusiasts forthe 45 minute ride from Lewiston tothe flag-waving gauntlet of over 400campers on the <strong>Wavus</strong> entrance drive!Thanks to former Senator Snowe forher continued gestures of support andthank you again to Steve, the CVMA,and all of the participants of the ridefor raising much needed funds for ourVeterans <strong>Camp</strong> programs. We lookforward to seeing you again in July!School Vacation Adventure <strong>Camp</strong>American Legion Post 86 in Gray,Maine Raises $10,000 for <strong>Kieve</strong>’sVeterans <strong>Camp</strong>Joe Hansen and his very determinedteam of volunteers organized a golfscramble at the Falmouth CountryClub this past fall. The day turnedout to be what many called, “A HomeRun!” After the Presentation of TheColors by the Air National Guard’sHonor Guard, the skies cleared up.A new pickup truck donated byCasco Ford for a hole-in-one prize satgleaming in the sunlight just outsidethe tee box on the 6th hole. Golf cartswere scrambling around the courselike ants and everyone was having agood time.A full day of golf melted into theafternoon and the clubhouse filled upwith excited teams of golfers. Aftera delicious buffet-style dinner, 50/50drawing and prize raffle had beenThe Sons of the American Legion Post 86 Gray,Maine present a check from the 1st “Tee it upFore a Veteran” golf outing last fall at TheFalmouth Country Club. Leadership School Educators engagedcampers in indoor and outdoor play for days that were full, and joyful. <strong>Camp</strong>ers went home happyand tired each day and Educators had so much fun that we did it again in April, this time held atNobleboro Central School. Both Nobleboro Central School and <strong>Kieve</strong>-<strong>Wavus</strong> benefited from sharingresources and strengths and looking forward to more emerging opportunities in the future. FridaHennig enjoys her week at camp.Nancy added, “It’s a wonderfulopportunity we have to work withveterans and their families, manyof whom are working through theadverse effects of their wartime serviceto our Nation.
