RADIO ADSWe advertise on 610 WTVN’s “In the Garden with Ron Wilson”, a two-hour call-ingardening program that airs Saturdays at 10 am. Ron does a fine job and dispensesa great amount of good horticultural advice. Our ads can also be heard at variousother times on WTVN (AM) and on WODC 93.3 (FM). We also do some TV spots onWCMH NBC4. These ad spots are ‘oddly different’, much like the pair that appearsin them: Chris Baker as himself and buddy Chris Calvin as ‘Cal, The Voice of Baker’sAcres’. The theme song was written and produced by Mr. Baker and performed by hismusical cronies, aka The Baker’s Acres Orchestra and Chorus. For the sake of theirprofessional careers they have asked not to be identified. If you were unfortunateenough to hear the theme song previously, it is probably still playing over and over inyour head until, desperate for relief, you’ve resorted to self-medication.WEB SITE & NEWSLETTERMany of you web-surfer-type folks have asked if we have a website. As they say intechnological Internet jargon…yes, we do. The site is basically this catalog minusthis paragraph. In fact, if you want to download this catalog in PDF form, there isa button to click. We will also announce any special events such as sales or gardentalks. Since we have discontinued mailing catalogs and sale postcards due to the highcost of postage, we have started an Email Newsletter, to be sent seven or eight times ayear to keep you abreast of the latest happenings here at the Acres. To sign up, go tothe home page and enter your name and email address and then click ‘subscribe’. Wepromise not to share your email addresses with anyone. As you may have suspected, the Internet is actually done with magic, for which we rely on our web wizard, MarkRaymond. Thanks, Mark. www.bakersacresgreenhouse.comOh, and for those of you who are facially bookish, Baker’s Acres Greenhouse is onFacebook. Become a fan!IN MEMORIAMBaker’s Acres lost two very good acquaintances this past year. Brian Allen passedaway in October. He was the owner of the hot dog cart that we enjoy on springweekends, and partner of Amy Meier, the cheerful person preparing your delicioussandwiches. Last summer, we also lost Nanette Welch, a long-time gardener andassistant to Tracy DiSabato-Aust. We’ll miss these nice folks and send our sincerestsympathies to their friends and loved ones.THE 10% CARDWe like to reward our frequent flower buyers. If you’re here a lot, we have a programfor you. Here’s the deal: you can purchase a 10% off, non-transferable card fromus for $50. This may be used all of 2013 for any purchase. Simply present it to thecashier when checking out. It should be a simple way to save some money if youspend a lot of it here at the Acres.SUMMER BREAK – PART 2Last year, in an effort to make sense out of the S-L-O-W summer garden centerbusiness in July and August, we closed from the end of July until the end of August. It worked out pretty well, especially because of the drought that we experienced. Thisyear, we’re tweaking things a bit. From July 15 th until August 23 rd , we will be openon Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We will be open during the rest of the week byappointment only. Please call first. Hopefully, this will work fine for all involved andwe won’t have a drought again.50
