Chapter 5The New Covenant LawKey scriptures which define the differencesbetween the various constructions of twohouses should be read in Hebrews 3:1-6.The first house is The Tabernacle built byMoses who was faithful. God’s glory dweltthere. Its purpose was to be a testimonyof what God was going to do with Israel.It pointed towards the future. The Lawof Moses was designed to bring them toChrist. Once Jesus came, He becamepersonally responsible to build The Houseof God. Since He built the spiritual house,it was greater than the physical house whichMoses built. Jesus built this house withmore glory. These two houses describe thedifference between The Old Covenant andThe New Covenant.God Builds All ThingsPaul instructed Timothy that God was building a GreatHouse where He will dwell with man (Revelation 21:3).This great house will be built by God under The NewHeaven and on The New Earth. This is because God,alone, builds all things (Hebrews 3:4).Jesus intended to build a house, personally, whichwould have “great honor.” When God’s house beganin The Garden of Eden, it was filled with both hon-

Moses came and gaveThe Law in The Letter, but Christ magnified The Lawand gave it light. What was the difference? BeforePaul describes this great house which God is building,he instructs Timothy to have a sure foundation(II Timothy 2:19). Then Paul declares that The Lordknows who belongs to Him. Who is this foundation(I Corinthians 3:11)? Paul said, “And, Let every onethat names the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (IITimothy 2:19). This great house has both honorableand dishonorable vessels in it. So Paul wants Timothyto continue Christ’s work of instructing the vessels(individuals) in this house to be faithful – In Christ – tothe very end.Old And NewClearly, The Old Covenant was given to Moses to bringIsrael to repentance. This is before their acceptanceof their Messiah who would become The Author of aNew Covenant which is newer and better than The Old.That is why The Old Covenant had to vanish away.But it was never to be destroyed. The Old Covenantwas only for the unrighteous and not for the righteous(I Timothy 1:7-10). All The Old Covenant could do wasto be a Schoolmaster (Rabbi/teacher/priest) to bringa person to Christ. The Old Covenant, based uponThe Law of Moses, required a Levitical Priesthoodto pardon individuals for their sins. The righteouswere righteous because of The Blood of Christ (theirsins were pardoned). They received grace and did not
