GUEST SPEAKERSBrett Kaysen has been an influence in the Alpaca Community on many levels since2001. He has travelled coast to coast in North America as well as internationallyteaching seminars on <strong>alpaca</strong>s consisting of classroom presentations as well as“hands-on workshops”. Brett has a passion for educating, especially in the area ofAnimal Science. Brett was raised east of Brighton, Colorado where he was alwaysinvolved with every aspect of raising livestock.Cheryl Gehly became an AOBA Certified Fleece Judge in 2002. In additionto judging fleece shows, Cheryl has shared her knowledge with judges andapprentices as an AOBA Certified Instructor at JTCC sponsored Judge TrainingClinics, as well as being a Senior AOBA Fleece Judge and an AOBA CertifiedFleece Judge Trainer. Cheryl has volunteered time with AOBA by being amember and chairperson of the Judge Training and Certification Committee.Cheryl has been a member and chairperson of the AOBA Judge AdvisoryCommittee. She is also the fleece judge liaison to the Show Rules Committee.Cheryl teaches at breeder seminars around the country as well as judging multiple AOBA CertifiedFleece Shows annually.Claire Whitehead BVM&S MS FHEA MRCVS Diplomate ACVIM (Large Animal)Claire grew up in the UK, developing a passion for <strong>alpaca</strong>s on the family farm.She completed a Residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at The OhioState University in July 2005, working under Dr David Anderson. Llamas and<strong>alpaca</strong>s formed approximately 95% of her heavy caseload there. She stayed onat Ohio State for another year as a clinical instructor in Camelid Medicine andReproduction, returning to the Royal Veterinary College in the UK in February2007 where she established the first referral service catering specifically for Camelids alongsideother farm animals in the UK. In May 2011, she set up in private practice running a camelid-onlyreferral and consultancy practice and runs courses for vets and owners/breeders on CamelidHealth and Reproduction. She has exciting plans to build a new camelid-focussed facility to beopened in Spring 2014.Claire has extensive speaking experience and has presented at conferences all over the UnitedStates, in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Finland and Holland as well as New Zealand. Her mainresearch interests include Camelid genetics, vitamin D metabolism, neonatology, immunology, andneurological diseases. She has co-written an owners’ manual on Neonatal Care for Camelids andguest-edited a special edition of the Veterinary Clinics of North America on Alpaca and LlamaHealth Management (2009).
