<strong>fmGenie</strong><strong>fmGenie</strong>Appendix 5: Important warnings and cautionsTurn off immediately in the event of a malfunctionShould you notice smoke or an unusual smell coming from thecharger unit or the equipment, unplug the charger from the mainsand remove any batteries immediately from the <strong>fmGenie</strong> takingcare to avoid burns.Continued operation could result in injury. After removing the batteriescontact your usual service and maintenance centre.! Do not expose batteries to flame or to excessive moisture or heat. Do not short circuit or disassemble batteries. Never allow battery terminals to come into contact withother metallic objects. Use a rubber band to hold 2 ormore batteries safely side by side, and put them in aplastic bag. The best way to carry batteries is to use aplastic battery case (Part no. MBATCASE).Appendix 5 – Important warnings and cautions7Do not use in the presence of flammable gasDo not use electronic equipment in the presence of flammable gas, as thiscould result in explosion or fire.Use appropriate cables and chargersWhen connecting cables to the input and output jacks use only cables andchargers supplied or sold by Connevans for the purpose, in order tomaintain compliance with product regulations.Observe proper precautions when handling batteries Always turn off an <strong>fmGenie</strong> before removing batteries. If you are using an in-situ charger, be sure it is unplugged from the<strong>fmGenie</strong> before removing or replacing batteries. Always switch off a plug-in charger before fitting or removing batteries. Batteries may leak or explode if improperly handled. Use only 1.5V AA alkaline or 1.2V AA nickel metal hydride rechargeablebatteries. Do not attempt to charge non rechargeable batteries as this could causefire or explosion. When inserting batteries take care to fit them the correct way round.Align their positive (+) and negative (–) terminals as shown on the labelin the battery compartment. When replacing batteries, replace both batteries using two batteries ofthe same type and make. Do not either mix batteries of different typesor use old and new batteries together. Non rechargeable batteries are prone to leakage when fullydischarged. To avoid damage to your <strong>fmGenie</strong> remember to removealkaline batteries when they become flat.CAUTIONObserve the following precautions to ensure that you get the most fromyour <strong>fmGenie</strong>.Keep dryThe <strong>fmGenie</strong> is not waterproof and may malfunction if immersed in wateror exposed to high levels of humidity.Do not dropYour <strong>fmGenie</strong> may malfunction if subjected to strong shocks (never quicklyopen a carrying case and say BOO!) or strong vibrations.Avoid sudden changes in temperatureSudden changes of temperature, such as when entering or leaving a heatedbuilding on a very cold day, can cause condensation inside the <strong>fmGenie</strong>. Toprevent condensation place your <strong>fmGenie</strong> in a pouch, case or other bagbefore exposing it to sudden temperature changes.Do not attempt to open an <strong>fmGenie</strong>.There are no <strong>user</strong> serviceable parts inside an <strong>fmGenie</strong> and you willinvalidate the warranty. Should a unit break open as a result of a fall orother accident remove the batteries and return to Connevans for repair.Sticky or corrosive liquidsShould your <strong>fmGenie</strong> suffer spillage or immersion in liquid (eg cola),immediately remove the batteries and rinse the <strong>fmGenie</strong> in clean water.The <strong>fmGenie</strong> will still need to be returned to Connevans, however yourwashing out of ‘nasty liquids’ before they dry will minimise contaminationand corrosion. Do NOT attempt to power up the unit to test it as you mightcause further damage.
