SPECIAL EVENTS AND MOREThe Rock Hall’s Community Festivals, sponsored by Target and KeyBank withsupport from NewsChannel 5 and The Call & Post, are a celebration of NortheastOhio’s diversity. The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration drew a recordcrowd as actress Angela Bassett visited the Museum. In partnership with the ClevelandMetropolitan School District, the Rock Your World All-City Arts festival once againcelebrated the Cleveland community’s outstanding theater, music and arts students.Each year, community festivals bring thousands of people together to help themunderstand and appreciate the Rock Hall’s mission and the range of cultures andmusical styles it commemorates.Once again, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presented its free summer concert series,this time partnering with Cleveland.com. The free Cleveland Sessions took placeon the Plaza in front of the Museum throughout the summer.The Museum held the first Riot Girls & Rebels: A Celebration of ProfessionalWomen Who Rock event sponsored by KeyBank. The event was designed to honorwomen who are an inspiration and involved in arts and cultural organizations. Musicexecutive Barbara Carr, veteran of the music business, was honored. She has spent thelast 27 years as a partner in Jon Landau Management, working with Bruce Springsteenamong others. She created the Kristen Ann Carr Fund for sarcoma research at therequest of her daughter who died of cancer. Also honored was Joan Jett, who – alongwith her band, the Blackhearts – entertained the crowd with a powerful performance.The first local winner was Eliza Wing, president and CEO of cleveland.com.At the same time, the Museum was featured prominently on national televisionand in newspapers across the country. The Today Show traveled to Cleveland for afeature story on Toddler Rock, American Idol used the 500 Songs that Shaped Rockand Roll as its theme for a week, The New York Daily News covered our distancelearningclass at a high school in the Bronx, and more than 200 newspapers ran anAssociated Press story about the Toddler Rock program.
