Our close relationship with<strong>the</strong> new Bils<strong>to</strong>n Urban Village Leisure Centre means thatwe will have access <strong>to</strong> outstanding sports’ provision fromSeptember 2011, ensuring that Academy students have <strong>the</strong>best possible facilities for <strong>the</strong>ir education.

Parents are required<strong>to</strong> complete <strong>the</strong> Common Application Form(CAF) which is sent by <strong>the</strong>ir Local Authority.If you would like <strong>to</strong> apply for a Year 7 placeat <strong>the</strong> Academy you should name <strong>the</strong> SWBAcademy as your preference on <strong>the</strong> CAF.The Academy will operate <strong>the</strong>same admission arrangements andoversubscription criteria as Wolverhamp<strong>to</strong>nCity Council. In accordance with <strong>the</strong>searrangements, where <strong>the</strong>re are moreapplications received than <strong>the</strong>re are placesavailable, <strong>the</strong> following oversubscriptioncriteria will be applied.After <strong>the</strong> admission of students withstatements of Special Educational Needswhere <strong>the</strong> SWB Academy is named on <strong>the</strong>statement, <strong>the</strong> criteria will be applied in <strong>the</strong>order in which <strong>the</strong>y are set out below:a) Criterion 1: Looked after children(as defined by Section 22 of <strong>the</strong>Children Act 1989). Priority will begiven <strong>to</strong> a child who is in <strong>the</strong> careof a local authority or provided withaccommodation by that authority.b) Criterion 2: Medical/SocialWhe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>re are specific medical orsocial circumstances that can be me<strong>to</strong>nly by <strong>the</strong> child’s attendance at <strong>the</strong>SWB Academy.c) Criterion 3: SiblingsWhe<strong>the</strong>r siblings attend <strong>the</strong> Academyand will still be attending <strong>the</strong> Academyat <strong>the</strong> time of admissions. Foradmission purposes, a sibling is a childwho resides at <strong>the</strong> same address as<strong>the</strong> child for whom a place is beingrequested, and is one of <strong>the</strong> following:-n bro<strong>the</strong>r/sistern half bro<strong>the</strong>r/sister (i.e. shareone common parent)n stepbro<strong>the</strong>r/sister (i.e. relatedby a parent’s marriage)n any o<strong>the</strong>r child for whom it canbe demonstrated that s/he isresiding permanently at <strong>the</strong> sameaddress (e.g. under <strong>the</strong> terms of aresidence order).The sibling connection only applies wherefamilies have a sibling attending <strong>the</strong>Academy at <strong>the</strong> time of <strong>the</strong> application aswell as at <strong>the</strong> time of admission.d) Criterion 4: DistanceHow close <strong>the</strong> child lives <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>Academy, with those living closest<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academy getting <strong>the</strong> highestpriority. The measurement betweenhome and Academy will be determinedby a straight line measurement from<strong>the</strong> designated seed point of <strong>the</strong> homeaddress <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> designated seed poin<strong>to</strong>f <strong>the</strong> nearest Academy site using <strong>the</strong>authority’s computerised system.AppealsParents will have <strong>the</strong> right of appeal <strong>to</strong> anindependent panel. Fur<strong>the</strong>r informationcan be found in <strong>the</strong> Local Authority’ssecondary admissions brochure.Waiting ListsWhere more applications are received than<strong>the</strong>re are places available, a waiting listwill operate. Following an unsuccessfulapplication, parents can ask for <strong>the</strong>irchild’s name <strong>to</strong> be placed on <strong>the</strong> waitinglist. A child’s position on <strong>the</strong> waitinglist and <strong>the</strong> allocation of a place will bedetermined solely in accordance with <strong>the</strong>aforementioned oversubscription criteria.The Admission of Studentswith Statements of SpecialEducational NeedsThe Academy Trust shall ensure thatstudents with SEN are admitted on anequal basis with o<strong>the</strong>rs in accordancewith its admissions policy. If a child with aStatement of Special Educational Needsis allocated a place <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academy, thiswill reduce <strong>the</strong> number of places at <strong>the</strong><strong>school</strong> which are available for allocation. Inline with Wolverhamp<strong>to</strong>n’s arrangementsfor <strong>the</strong> admission of students with SENstatements, where <strong>the</strong> Academy has beennamed on <strong>the</strong> pupil’s Statement of SpecialEducational Needs, placements will bedetermined through <strong>the</strong> procedures forreviewing and amending <strong>the</strong> Statement inconsultation with parents/carers.
