Role: Packaging <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Engineer</strong>Salary: £47,477 - £58,069Role Description:Mechanical <strong>Engineer</strong>, responsible for supporting the ongoing operation of the LLW <strong>Repository</strong>fleet of radioactive waste transport packages, associated infrastructure and processes; and forthe specification, implementation and delivery of packaging design related work on a portfolioof new packaging projects and tasks.DutiesGeneral• Delivering assigned work packages that meet company, legal, regulatory and businessrequirements• Producing specifications for package design and associated engineering workpackages.• Producing and reviewing package design drawings, supporting analysis anddocumentation.• Preparing and assessing payload restraint/waste loading proposals• Producing package design safety reports and associated documentation in support oflicensing activities• Conducting engineering reviews to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance of the LLWRfleet of licensed transport packages.• Serving as point of liaison between external design organisations and suppliers forproject and task deliverables.• Reviewing and sentencing technical queries, production permits and operationalconcessions• Identifying appropriate design and engineering standards and practices to be used forProjects.Resource forecasting, demand, assignment and deployment:• Supporting the <strong>Package</strong> <strong>Design</strong> Authority in developing effective design strategies andplans• Coordinating the deployment of design resources in line with agreed resourcestrategiesCost & schedule:• Establishing and maintaining control of the mechanical engineering baseline viachange control process.• Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on packaging design engineering progressSupply Chain Acquisition• Serve as Intelligent Customer for the specification and acquisition of bought in designengineering and manufacturing servicesA company owned by UK Nuclear <strong>Waste</strong> Management <strong>Ltd</strong>Old Shore Road, Drigg, Holmrook,Cumbria United Kingdom, CA19 1XHCompany Registration No. 05608448


Supply Chain delivery:• Inputting to and reviewing work packages, tender selection, and tender submissions forprocurement of packaging design, manufacturing and engineering services.Specifying, overseeing and reviewing package design engineering work performed by supplychain contractors.Essential Skills• Honours degree in Mechanical <strong>Engineer</strong>ing or equivalent.• Chartered (IMechE) or working towards Chartered status• Working knowledge and experience of legislation, inclusive of Machinery Directive,PUWER, LOLER and CDM• Ability to deliver high quality design and engineering documentation• Ability to effectively manage supply chain contractors• Good verbal and written communication skillsDesirable Skills• Experience of design of packaging for the transport of radioactive materials• Working knowledge of the IAEA regulations for safe transport of radioactive materials• Experience of working in the nuclear industry• Working knowledge of lifting equipment and associated design codes.• Experience working in the hazardous waste transportation, storage and disposalindustry.• Proficiency in use of MS office suite, Autocad and Mathcad software applicationsBackground InformationLLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong> is a waste management company that provides services to Customers totreat and dispose of low level radioactive waste.
