Role: <strong>Lead</strong> <strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>Engineer</strong>Salary: £47,477 – £53,523Role Description<strong>Lead</strong> <strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>Engineer</strong>, responsible for supporting the ongoing operation of the LLW<strong>Repository</strong> and for the definition, resourcing, implementation and delivery of mechanicalengineering-related work on a portfolio of projects and tasks.DutiesGeneral• <strong>Lead</strong>ing a team of single mechanical discipline engineers in the definition,implementation and delivery of engineering work packages.• Checking and approval of mechanical design packages• Delivering assigned work packages that meet company, legal, regulatory and businessrequirements• Implementing appropriate functional engineering reviews to discharge Design Authorityobligations and engaging Design experts to advise and guide the development ofengineering solutions.• Coaching and mentoring mechanical designers (as required)• Serving as point of liaison between external design organisations and mechanicalsuppliers for project and task deliverables.Resource forecasting, demand, assignment and deployment:• Supporting the Head of <strong>Engineer</strong> in effective design strategies and plans• Generating periodic forecasts of mechanical engineering resource needs• Coordinating the deployment of design resources in line with agreed resourcestrategies• Identifying appropriate design and engineering standards and practices to be used forProjects.Cost & schedule:• <strong>Lead</strong>ing the development of the mechanical engineering elements of Project baseline(scope, schedule and budget).• Establishing and maintaining control of the mechanical engineering baseline viachange control process.• Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on mechanical engineering statusSupply Chain Acquisition:• Serve as Intelligent Customer for the specification and acquisition of bought-inmechanical engineering services.Supply Chain delivery:• Inputting to and reviewing work packaging, tender selection, and tender submissionsfor procurement of mechanical engineering services.A company owned by UK Nuclear <strong>Waste</strong> Management <strong>Ltd</strong>Old Shore Road, Drigg, Holmrook,Cumbria United Kingdom, CA19 1XHCompany Registration No. 05608448


Specifying, overseeing and reviewing mechanical engineering work performed by supply chaincontractors.Essential Skills• BSc in <strong>Mechanical</strong> <strong>Engineer</strong>ing or equivalent (Hons preferred).• Chartered (IMechE) or working towards Chartered status• Experience of supporting plant operations, maintenance and improvements• Working knowledge and experience of legislation, inclusive of Machinery Directive,PUWER, LOLER and CDM• Working knowledge of piping systems and lifting equipment and associated designcodes.• Ability to deliver high quality schedules and cost estimates• Ability to effectively manage supply chain contractors• <strong>Lead</strong>ership and organisation skills• Good verbal and written communication skillsDesirable Skills• Experience of working in the nuclear industry• Experience working in the hazardous waste transportation, storage and disposalindustry.Background InformationLLW <strong>Repository</strong> <strong>Ltd</strong> is a waste management company that provides services to Customers totreat and dispose of low level radioactive waste.
