~ Letter To The Editor ~Don’t stop dreaming! It all started in 2005. I had justfinished watching the movie “Mad,Hot Ballroom”, a documentary basedon the inspiring story of Pierre Dulaine, who reduced violence throughteaching children ballroom dancing. The movie showed how the program,Dancing Classrooms, changed thelives of the children by giving themconfidence, self-respect, and elegance.I was so inspired by the programthat I decided to reach out to PierreDulaine, the principal behind thissuccessful program. His personal story was fascinatingas well.I first met Pierre in New York City. When I entered his studio he welcomedme with “Ahlan wa Sahlan”,which are words of welcome in Arabic, that immediately bonded us. Thefirst question I asked him was “Pierre, how can I persuade you to come toIsrael and teach your method in ourschools?” to which Pierre answeredimmediately “I have a dream, toteach my method to Arab and Israelichildren together. If you, Miri, will beable to fulfill my dream, I am morethan happy to volunteer my time”The dream came true. The rest is history. After five years of preparation,Pierre finally came to Jaffa in 2011.With the support of the Tel-Aviv-JaffaMunicipality and the Jewish-ArabCenter in Jaffa, Pierre started workingwith the Israeli Palestinian and IsraeliJewish children together. He workedin Jewish, Arabic and Mixed Schools. After three months of teaching his“Dulaine Method”, the Rainbow TeamMatch Competition took place. Thediverse audience of teachers, principalsand parents from different faithsdanced the Rumba, Tango, and Marangtogether. This event transformedthe city of Jaffa.Few days ago the premiere of theMovie “Dancing in Jaffa”, a documentary, that tells the personal storyof Pierre Dulaine’s dream come true, opened the DocAviv Movie Festivalin Tel-Aviv.“Dancing Classrooms Israel” wasthe fruit of this amazing partnership. So far, Thirteen Schools alreadyparticipated in The Program “DancingClassroom Israel” touching morethan one thousand students. Adi Fux,Elron Reuveni, the amazing artisticteachers and myself wish the productionteam of “Dancing in Jaffa” greatsuccess. All the best,Miri Shahaf Levi ,Executive DirectorGeorge Victory & TheObservant Lion BandGeorge Victory, together withsome friends and well-known localmusicians, will put on a show featuringa variety of Caribbean-inspiredworld beats. This five-piece band is fronted by2 time gold album artist and internationallyknown guitarist and vocalistGeorge Victory.
