Chapter 3ObjectivesAs a departure point <strong>for</strong> this thesis, the following objectives were considered:1. The determination of the probability of misidentifying a meson as a muon (MisID)in FOCUS as a function of momentum.2. The development of software <strong>for</strong> the search <strong>for</strong> the rare decay Da b d e d g usingblind analysis methods.3. The preselection (from the large FOCUS data set) of a small and flexible set of eventcandidates <strong>for</strong> Da b d e d g as well as <strong>for</strong> the Da b K g e normalizing mode.4. The determination of the relative efficiency <strong>for</strong> the detection of Da b d e d g andDacb K g e in FOCUS using Monte Carlo simulation to generate and analyzeappropriate samples of the decays.44
