GeneralArmtec flap gates are used to control flowautomatically. with a small differential pressure onthe back of the gate, it opens automatically to allowdischarge. When the head is greater on the faceside of the gate, the flap closes automatically toprevent backflow. All flap gate models are flat backto allow mounting on a pipe flange or head wall.No lifting device is required.Flap gates act as natural skimmers of debris such asbranches, logs and trash. It is recommended thatfrequent inspection and cleaning be scheduled tokeep the flap gate working effectively. Installationshould incorporate a vertical elevation drop belowthe flap gate of 300 to 600 mm, to allow debris towork its way free of the gate.Protection of a flap gate should be considered whenthe installation projects into a stream flow whereheavy debris or ice may be present.Head losses through Armtec flap gates are minimalwhen compared with other losses in the hydraulicstructure. Should more information about head lossbe required, please contact your local Armtecrepresentative.DesignArmtec cast iron flap gates are available in standardsizes from Ø102 to Ø2438 and various square andrectangular models. Cast iron flap gates are divided intothree series: 10C, 20C and 50C.• 10C designed for 10’ (3m) of face pressure (seatinghead)• 20C designed for 20’ (6m) of face pressure (seatinghead)• 50C designed for 50’ (15m) of face pressure (seatinghead)Double Hinge Action (20C & 50C models only)All Armtec flap gates are equipped with double actionhinges to ensure proper seating of the flap against theframe. The main hinge action of the flap is about theupper pivot points on the frame. The flap rotatesapproximately 90 o about this point. The lower pivotpoints on the flap allow only a few degrees of rotationbetween the hinge and the flap. This allows the flap toalign and create a flat seal, while preventing the flapfrom rotating in relation to the hinge arms.Adjustable Top Pivot Points (20C & 50C only)The model 20C and 50C incorporate adjustable toppivot points. Series 10C Flap GateDescriptionThe model 10C (for seating heads up to 3.0 metresor 10 feet) incorporates the simplest circular flapgate design, with a double hinge action. The frameand the flap are of cast iron construction withgalvanized hinge arms and fasteners. All pivot wearpoints are bronze bushed. A lifting eye is castintegrally with the flap to permit manual operation.InstallationThe model 10C flap gate is manufactured in a flat backconfiguration. DescriptionThe model 20C flap gate is a circular medium dutygate that can withstand seating heads up to 6.0metres or 20 feet. Features include a double hingeaction and adjustable top pivot points. The gate isavailable in a flat back frame with either cast ironor bronze seating faces. The hinge arms are castiron similar in composition to the frame and cover,and all four pivot points are bronze bushed.Fasteners are available in galvanized or stainlesssteel.
