Battle Creek fire of 2002.The following guidelines can help to reduce the risk from wildfire.· Make sure your house number is visible.· Keep grass and lawns cut short and well irrigated· Use fire resistive vegetation in close proximity to structures· Separate natural fuels from combustible structure materials· Provide survivable space for structures· Keep dead organic material maintained· Keep trees a minimum of 15 feet away from chimneys· Combustible materials attached to the house may be a concern· Topography will influence the amount of survivable space required· Provide a hose and ladder for fire service personnel· Keep firewood and other fuels at least 30 feet from structuresLawrence County Community Wildfire Protection Plan 37
