KHSSL Handbook 5 <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong>/<strong>1.1</strong>MEMBERSHIPMembership in the <strong>League</strong> is open to all elementary, middle, junior high, and senior high schools in<strong>Kentucky</strong> (public and private). Registration will be through the website and via dues payment. TheRegistration form must be completed on the website, and fees sent to the <strong>League</strong> office address found onthe title page of this Handbook.A family which home schools its children may join KHSSL as a member school. In addition, a local Home<strong>School</strong> Association may join KHSSL as a member school, and all children being home schooled by thatAssociation’s members will be considered students of that school. A local Home <strong>School</strong> Association mayjoin KHSSL whether it was established for purposes of joining KHSSL or if it was previously established tosupport home schooling families. For purposes of membership, a local Home <strong>School</strong> Association is anassociation of home school families who reside either in the same county, city, or town or in a compactgeographic area as permitted within the discretion of the Executive Director. Each home school or HSAwill be placed in a KHSSL Region.Early registration is available through October 1, and only those schools registering by this date willappear in the KHSSL Directory which is published yearly, and can be found on the KHSSL website.<strong>School</strong>s may continue to register for a higher fee through November 1, but no registrations are acceptedafter November 1. Registration fees, as well as all entry fees paid for KHSSL tournaments, arenonrefundable (see chart below).The Junior Division is open to students in grades 4-9 and the Senior Division to students in grades 9-12.Ninth graders housed in the same building as students in grades 4-8 must compete in the JuniorDivision while ninth graders housed in the same building as students in grades 10-12 must compete inthe Senior Division. The Senior Division provides competition in speech, drama, and debate. RegionalManagers are exempt from paying membership fees as well as entry fees into the regional and statechampionships.
