Chicks with Sticks (Grades 3-6)It will be indoor field hockey in the new Harrington McLaughlin Athletic Center with emphasis on stick skills such asdribbling, reverse stick hits, push passes, proper stops and dodges. Students will do drills, play short-sided games, fullfield games and will review the rules, violations and fouls that are enforced during game play. Balls, sticks and eye guardsprovided.* Players will need their own shin guards and mouth guards.Day: 6 Thursdays (3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 4/7, 4/14) Time: 3:45 – 5:15 p.m. Cost: $90Instructor: Coaches Kathy Novak and Colleen Newman (OTS Middle <strong>School</strong> Field Hockey Coaches)Chinese I (Grades K-2)This class introduces students to the Chinese language and culture through simple sentences, songs, rhymes, and interactive activities.Day: 9 Wednesdays (1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23) Time: 3:45 – 4:30 p.m. Cost: $120Instructor: Ya Fen Emily Feng, Our Lady of the Elms Chinese InstructorChinese II (Grades 3 & up)Students will explore Chinese language and culture through songs, rhymes, interactive activities, plus reading and writing.Day: 9 Wednesdays (1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23) Time: 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. Cost: $120Instructor: Ya Fen Emily Feng, Our Lady of the Elms Chinese InstructorGettysburg and Ike - Civil War meets World War II(Grades 4-8 – younger with permission)Few time periods in American History resonate more than the Civil War and World WarII. During these critical years, the fate of the world hung in the balance. Students willexplore the American Civil War and World War II. Hands on activities will allow studentsto experience the life of soldiers during these two time periods using original letters,equipment and works of literature describing the period, as well as multimedia materialand games to understand the American experience in the Civil War and World War II.Students and their families will be given the option to join the instructor for an extended weekend trip to the Gettysburg and EisenhowerNational Historic Site to enjoy an insider's look at the Civil War and World War II. Meet prominent authors, artists and historians of the CivilWar and explore several little-visited areas of the battlefield; including the town.Day: 8 Tuesdays (4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31) Time: 3:45-5 p.m. Limit: 15 students Cost: $95Instructor: Jeff Evans, OTS Middle <strong>School</strong> Social Studies Teacher. Jeff spent almost 10 years with the National Park Service at Gettysburgand other historic sites. He has written extensively about the battle for various publications.Girls on the Run (Grades 3-5)Girls on the Run is a self-esteem program for girls in grades three through five. The 10-weekprogram strives to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physicaldevelopment. These goals are accomplished through self-esteem enhancing, upliftingworkouts that focus on topics relevant to girls in today's society (e.g. values, peer pressure,standing up for one's self in a healthy manner, goal setting, messages from media,etc.) Atthe end of the 10-week program, the girls participate in a community 5k (3.1 miles) event inwhich every girl crosses the finish line and experiences the surge of confidence that comesfrom working towards and achieving a significant goal!.Day: 20 Mondays & Wednesdays – (3/7, 3/9, 3/14, 3/16, 3/21, 3/23, 4/6, 4/11, 4/13, 4/18,4/20, 4/25, 4/27, 5/2, 5/4, 5/9, 5/11, 5/16, 5/18, 5/23) (no classes 3/28, 3/30 and 4/4)Time: 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Limit: 15 students Cost: see fee schedule on flyerInstructor: Certified Girls on the Run Coaches*register by completing the pink Girls on the Run flyer
