Research <strong>and</strong> Development6.2.2 Drug research <strong>and</strong> developmentResearch for safe, effective <strong>and</strong> efficacious <strong>drugs</strong> aimed at alleviating commondiseases <strong>and</strong> conditions as well as newly emerging <strong>and</strong> re-emerging healthproblems shall be encouraged. This shall include both basic <strong>and</strong> industrial research.Transfer <strong>and</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> technology by domestic companies are stronglyrecommended.Drug-related clinical trials shall be organized <strong>and</strong> conducted in accordance withGood Clinical Practice Guidelines including the need for institutional ethics review.Relevant regulation will be introduced to safeguard the integrity <strong>of</strong> clinical trials <strong>and</strong>the welfare <strong>of</strong> trial subjects.Research in traditional medicines shall also be encouraged.25
