Six percent of all families are living in poverty and 40% of all households donot earn enough to support their basic living expenses. There are significant preparationgaps for children and youth to succeed in school and be ready for work and life. Andhealth behaviors and limitations to health care access continue to keep students fromachieving in school and workers from being productive at work and create risk for serioushealth conditions. Our community cannot accept these conditions, and United Way of Johnson County hasredoubled its efforts to unite our community to give, advocate and volunteer to changecommunity conditions and improve lives by focusing on life’s building blocks – education, income and health.United Way led the research efforts for the 2010 Community Assessment and convenedthe community to create the 2020 Vision Goals for the Common Good to:• Improve success for children and youth by decreasing the preparation gaps by 1/3 forschool, post-high education and work.• Increase by 20% households in Johnson County that are financially stable• Increase by 1/3 the number of children and adults who are health and avoiding riskbehavior. One community. Three goals. Be part of the change. To learn more about how you can give, advocate and volunteer to contribute to achieving these goals, visit www.unitedwayjc.org.Working together we can accomplish things that no organization, no individual, nogovernment, no single sector can accomplish on its own. Together, we will improve thelives of thousands of individuals served by United Way’s 29 partner agencies and theirincredible volunteers, and in the process contribute to achieving sustained improvementin the quality of life enjoyed by everyone in our community. The stakes are high and thegoals are ambitious, but when achieved our community will be a stronger, safer, healthierand more economically s table place to live and work. These changes will result in a moreproductive workforce which will attract new employers; a more engaged population witha visibly stronger sense of enthusiasm, and community and civic pride; and a measurablyhealthier and happier community. For more information about United Way and the 2020 Vision Goals for the CommonGood, visit www.unitedwayjc.org.United Way of Johnson County (UWJC) is a volunteer-driven organization that unitesvolunteers from all across the community who provide the passion, expertise andresources needed to achieve impact.
