History; EO) III, known also as EG n Hans a" until Jan <strong>1945</strong>,<br />
and subsequently as EG- *Rhein-Ruhr R , was established<br />
about July 1944* It had already existed in part<br />
(in Westphalia) since May 1943> as EINSATZ (later<br />
EINSATZGRUPFE) RUHR, where it formed part of Ruhrstab<br />
STEER. It controls two OT Einsatze, the boundaries of<br />
which coincide with those of RI VI and X respectively.<br />
RI VI includes part of the area of earliest OT operations<br />
(1938 to 1940); the region through which run<br />
original fortifications of the West wall or Siegfried<br />
^I A number of the CBL's which were established during<br />
period, were re-activated during the summer and<br />
autumn of 1944 and early winter of <strong>1945</strong>. Such OBL's<br />
are marked with an asterisk (*). EGD III probably took<br />
over some of the area covered by EGD V when the latter
