Notes From The Superintendent<br />
District Report Card: Included in this newsletter is the<br />
<strong>Gibbon</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> Annual Report along with the district’s<br />
results on the State Report Card. The annual report is<br />
a requirement of the Accreditation Standards of the Nebraska<br />
Department of <strong>Education</strong>. The State Report Card is part of<br />
the state accountability system whereby patrons can learn how<br />
their school district is rated on the quality of assessments it<br />
uses to measure student learning and how their students are<br />
performing. The purpose of this accountability system is to<br />
help schools improve. For more detailed information on the<br />
State Report Card you might want to check the web site: http://<br />
reportcard.nde.state.ne.us/ I encourage you to take some time<br />
to review the material in these reports. Should you find that<br />
you would like further information, please feel free to call the<br />
school office at 468-6555.<br />
Demolition of Former Facility: The <strong>Board</strong> of <strong>Education</strong><br />
approved the bid of Blessing Construction for the demolition<br />
of the former facility at the postponed regular school <strong>Board</strong><br />
meeting of January 10 th that was held on January 17 th . The<br />
bid amount of $159,450 included a substantial completion date<br />
of April 15 th , 2011. This bid, along with nine other bids, was<br />
received by the Facility Committee on Tuesday, December<br />
21 st . Bid amounts ranged from the Blessing Construction bid<br />

and Additions<br />
• The varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games with Blue Hill<br />
postponed on January 11th have been tentatively rescheduled<br />
for February 7th at 6:15. The junior varsity games will not be<br />
rescheduled.<br />
• The Secondary/Community Variety Show scheduled for March<br />
25th has been cancelled.<br />
• A Community Play, directed by Mike Kenton, has been added<br />
to the calendar for March 25th and 26th .<br />
• The FCCLA State Leadership Conference is incorrectly<br />
published as April 1-3. The correct dates are April 3-5.<br />
• The Academic Awards Night will on Monday, May 2nd in conjunction<br />
with the Fine Arts Awards Night.<br />
• Boys’ Varsity District Golf is listed on both May 16th and 17th .<br />
The correct date is May 16th only. The competition will be held<br />
at Indian Head Golf Course in Grand Island.<br />

Crossing Guard: The district has placed a crossing guard<br />
at the intersection of Court and Drew Lane/10 th Street. This<br />
was a result of concerns brought to the district regarding the<br />
safety of students at this designated school crossing. Bernie<br />
Najera, who also serves as special events custodian, will be<br />
at this site mornings from 7:45 to 8:30 and in the afternoons<br />
from 3:00 to 3:45.<br />
LouPlatte Conference Basketball Tournament: <strong>Gibbon</strong><br />
will be the host site for the girls’ and boys’ conference basketball<br />
tournaments on February 2 nd , 4 th , 5 th , and 6 th . Come to<br />
the school and enjoy some excellent basketball. Good luck to<br />
the <strong>Gibbon</strong> teams!<br />
Video streaming: <strong>Gibbon</strong> has begun video streaming of<br />
home varsity basketball games. We will also be video streaming<br />
all conference basketball tournament games. Games will be<br />
available worldwide at http://stream.gibbonpublicschools.com<br />

<strong>Gibbon</strong> Elementary <strong>Of</strong>fice<br />
If your child will be 4 years old by October 15 th s/he<br />
is eligible for the <strong>Gibbon</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> grant supported<br />
pre-school program. Children who are eligible by age to<br />
enroll in kindergarten (those who reach the age of 5 by<br />
October 15 th of the current year) may not participate in<br />
a state grant funded pre-school program. Applications<br />
can be obtained at the elementary office.<br />

Conference Dates<br />
Second semester parent-teacher conferences dates have<br />
been set. The first session will be on Tuesday, February<br />
7 th from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. The second session will be on<br />
Wednesday, February 9 th from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.
