75 years of
Legion service
The considerable human resources of the Quesnel
branch of the Royal Canadian Legion have been
brought to bear on the occasion of their 75th anniversary.

Its hard to believe the Legion has been around for
75 years, but with a special anniversary book being
compiled and various events being planned, members
of Branch 94 plan to share their excitement.
"This is the first time this branch has chronicled its
history since it began on October 10, 1927," said anniversary
committee chair Tom Gurnett. "The idea came
from Jean Johnson. It was her promotion that started
the ball rolling."
When a devastating fire destroyed the old Legion
hall, records, mementos, photos and numerous other
treasures went up in smoke.
Although many items have either been replaced or
substituted with other equally valuable memorabilia,
some members, including Jean, felt a book would help
preserve the branches history.
There was also concern over the number of members
who are passing away and their story may never
be told.
Tom, with the extensive assistance of his committee,
is editing and publishing the book on his computer
and it will be printed by Spartan Printing. If all goes as
planned the 100 plus publication will be ready by midsummer.
Each page is divided into three sections with historical
information, personal recollections and photos
presented separately.
"This way its many short stories," Tom said.
With submissions by such veterans as Tom Moffat,
Jerry Lemire, Reg Muir and Sue Ward, plus the Quesnel
Cariboo Observer archives at the museum^ the
committee is very pleased with the way the book is
shaping up.
Even though the book is almost complete, Tom
said they are still looking for submissions.
When completed Tom expects to sell the book for
less than $20, just enough to cover costs.
Official celebrations are planned for October with
a three-day event including dignitaries from Quesnel
and beyond.
